The bright morning light shone in through the window, casting an angelic glow onto the walls of my room. As I inhaled deeply, I felt an arm move beside me. Startled, I bolted up and looked to see who it belonged to. Then, I smiled as I saw a brown headed boy lying on my pillow, sound asleep. "LEDA!!! BREAKFAST!" I heard my too cheery mom yell from the kitchen. I gasped and shook Aaron awake. "What-Leda-what" he groggily rubbed his eyes as I pulled him up and got him to his feet. "You have to go! Sorry! I love you, bye!" I said hurriedly as I shoves him towards the window. He have a small smirk before jumping out. I watched him land, relived that he didn't hurt himself. "LEDA!" I heard my mom yell once again as I rushed down the stairs and into the kitchen. "I'm here mom!" I say as I grab my plate and sit down. "Happy birthday my sweetie," she says smiling at me. As I look up at her, I realize that she has a certain sadness in her eyes, and that she's hiding something from me.
"Mom, what's going on?" I ask worriedly. "What do you mean?" She questioned, trying far too hard to convince me that there wasn't anything going on. "I know you mom. What's. Going. On?" I say more sternly, looking up at her face. She sighs and sits down, grabbing my hand. This can't be good. "Leda, sweetheart...it's time we have a talk. I've been hiding things from you your whole life, but I can assure you that it was only to keep you safe. But as you grow older your powers will grow too...I know that you don't have any idea of what I'm talking about, but in just a few hours it will begin to become clear to you that you are a lycanthrope and you are destined for greatness." She looked at me with tears in her eyes-and I laughed. What sort of weird prank is this?! "You are a lycanthrope" ha! That would explain the appetite! "Leda! I'm being serious! That necklace that your grandmother gave you-the one that shows the moon phases-is an amulet that contains your powers until you turns 16." She says desperately. My laughter stops as I look down with shaky hands and examine the amulet...maybe this is all true. My mother looks at the ground as she says, "there's a special boarding school for girls like you. It will help you control your abilities and use them for good. You will have leave in an hour." My heart stopped as I stared at her. "Wait-what?" I asked, barley audible. What about Aaron, and my friends, everything that I've worked so hard for? Everything that I thought mattered..now means nothing. She kept telling me how sorry she was, and how much she loved me, but I couldn't hear it. My brain just wouldn't process it-I was in complete shock. Before I knew it, I was being loaded into a black Bentley.
It took 3 hours to get to the destination , and when we finally arrived, it looked more like a house than a boarding school. It was a tiered, antebellum house, surrounded with trees, and a big gate that was blocking the entrance. The driver helped me out of the car and stood in front of the gate. I looked up at it's tremendous size. I felt like crying, my knees were weak and nothing made sense. This couldn't be happening. My whole life, everything I've ever known means nothing to me now. I didn't even know who I really was, and I still don't. In fact, now I'm more confused than ever.
Despite the impossible circumstances, I manage to swallow hard and take a deep breath, as the driver walks me up the steps to my new residence.
