JAEMIN'S grandmother was someone Jeno would want to avoid. She looked so strict. She had the looks of someone from the heavens or something.

"We have tons of things to talk about." Jaemin's grandmother gave them both a sweet smile, but Jeno well knew that behind that was something contrasting with what she put on. "Well, for starters. You can call me Mrs. Jinha," she said.

Jeno slowly nodded as he watched the woman making her way to an empty chair beside the couch. Mrs. Jinha looked at Jaemin then spoke up. "I've already heard about what happened at the castle, Renjun actually came to me a few days ago..." She opened the basket she brought before taking out a red necklace— it was an amulet.

"This is from your father," she said, raising the amulet higher for us to see it clearly. "He explained how this has been used for decades. It has been passed down from ruler to ruler.."

She then went over to Jaemin and handed it over to him. "I'm sorry, Jaemin. I know you're still young and all, but no one expected this to happen.." Jaemin looked down at the amulet. "You'll be the new king of the vampires.."

"Wait!" The two then looked at Jeno, who was still processing everything Mrs. Jinha said. "Then... Doesn't this mean he'll be leaving the human world and will be staying in the vampire's empire forever?"

"Yes, unfortunately," Mrs. Jinha replied. "He has to lead the vampires now that the king has passed away. Jaemin is the only heir to the throne.."

"Then this means..." Jeno's brown eyes looked into Jaemin's red ones. "You'll be leaving me..? You'll be leaving every human friend of yours..?"

Jaemin's eyes were emotionless. Maybe Jeno thought wrongly of him. Maybe he was wrong for thinking that Jaemin actually cared for him. Maybe Jaemin didn't give a damn about humans at all.

"I.." Jeno was snapped out of his thoughts as soon as the younger male spoke. ".. I don't wanna leave this place yet.."

"But—!"

"I'm not ready to go back to the empire yet! As of now, I'm being hunted down by a group of vampires. Jeno's friend is still with them. I haven't found a partner to lead the kingdom with!" Jaemin snapped. The boy was barely an adult, Jeno can see how stressed he was. There were a lot of things to think of.. if he was in Jaemin's place, for sure, he'd run away.

"By the way, grandmother.." Mrs. Jinha looked at him. "I'm sure that there's a traitor in the empire. Someone who acts like one of my comrades but actually isn't. I'm sure of it..."

His grandmother then looked down. She looked like she was about to make the biggest decision in her life.

A few moments later, she looked back at Jaemin.

"I won't say a word about us meeting here," she said. "But please take the amulet, it's for everyone to recognize that you're the king of the vampires without even having any coronation.."

Jeno watched as she held Jaemin's hands dearly. "Min, you need to hide for a while as we look for the traitor you speak of. And don't worry, Jeno.." She looked at the boy who was on the bed. ".. we'll be looking for that friend of yours too."

Jeno smiled. "Thank you."

Mrs. Jinha then stood up and made her way to the entrance. "I'll be going now. There's some food in the basket over there, and I've already made sure you have a place to stay in." She gave us both a smirk. "As of now, I'll be making sure to keep you both hidden from the vampires."

Jaemin grinned. "Thanks, grandmother."
