Chapter Three – WAIT…WHAT???!!!
Maxine
Patrick told me that he will go ahead of me because they have a meeting on the basketball team. He is one of the varsity players in basketball here in Zion Academy. He plays as the shooting guard of the team and shoots ringless especially on clutch times. I am so fortunate that Pat never entertains a single girl in school besides me. He stays loyal as Max, his dog.
The fourth floor of the building was the designated rooms for all the senior high students for convenience of the teachers to exchange rooms I guess. The designated section for each student was posted on the bulletin board near the stairs. A large crowd of students surrounded the bulletin board where you can see jocks, wearing their varsity jackets, sharing high-fives whenever they belong to one section and patting their mates’ shoulder if he belongs to another. Cheerleaders were squeaking loudly when they knew that a hottie jock or some popular guy was in their section. Nerds with their big glasses and braces embraced their books and cheered whenever they saw their names listed on section A where the cream of the crops were listed. I waited for a moment until the crowd lessened and I can bulge in the lists to see where I and Pat are. I tried to push through but it was still a struggle since some obese students were in my way and overreacting girls who would shout ‘Ouch! Watch it!’ I did not mind them since I don’t have to care for their businesses. I searched my name and found it on section A where it always was. And as usual, I was with my cousins, Allie and Callie, daughters of Aunt Hera. What surprised me was that I never saw Pat’s name on the list. I double scanned the list even triple but still no Patrick Anthony Porsche was found. I was dumbfounded with the moment and decided to check the other lists. And there he is, Section B. I was super excited before I came here but now I was left disappointed. I was hoping that I and Pat were going to have the most memorable memories during our last years in high school. We planned many things to be done but now it all started to pop like a bubble that burst into nothing. I slowly walked out in front of the bulletin board and went to Aunt Hera’s office.
I knocked on Aunt Hera’s door nervously and even though I tried to keep calm my hands were cold and beads of sweat were falling down the sides of my cheek. “Auntie? It’s me. May I come in?”
“Come in dear.” She replied.
I slowly twisted the knobs open and watched as my aunt carefully scanned important documents which I presume were important papers that runs the school.
“Sit down dear.” Gesturing me to sit on the nearby chair in front of her table.
Having conversations with a family member made me uneasy as always. I was secretly scraping the skin of my fingers on my skirt which somehow made the awkwardness of the situation subside a little.
“So, how may I help you, my dear?” Aunt Hera had this attitude that always reflect a calm lady even in times where everything is a mess that is why whenever there is a commotion in the family Aunt Hera is always to the rescue. She can calm everyone she talks to even the wildest person alive.
