Chapter Four – I THOUGHT…
Maxine
Days passed by slowly considering that Pat and I weren’t together in the same classroom. My seatmate stopped annoying me which I appreciated. Most of the time he sleeps in class but he is always the first one to go out of the classroom when the dismissal bells rang. I shook the thought away and concentrated on fixing myself for the homecoming party. Today’s Friday, Pat and I will be having the best night of our lives. Alas, we can be together again like we used to. Ever since the first day of school we never had the chance to hang out with each other because he’d been busy practicing basketball for the interschool tournaments on September. Too much pressure burdens him since he’s the shooting guard of the team.
I was done fixing myself and watched myself standing in front of a large mirror that can reflect my whole body. Aunt Hera sure knows my taste. She bought a black dress that has a v-neck in front and covered my back. See-through fabric covered my arms which went well with my figure, I guess. It looks like those traditional dresses that Spanish women wear while dancing with a fan but with lace sleeves. After fixing myself, I decided to bring my black Lamborghini to school because it suits my dress and for comfort purposes. I loved my outfit especially the one I don’t usually wear, a smile. I hope Patrick will be happy. This isn’t just Homecoming Party. Today’s a very important day for the both of us. Today’s our 3rd anniversary and he’s my date for tonight. While I was driving my way to school I glance at a box on the dashboard of my car. A gift from me to Pat. Finding a parking space was hard since almost all of the students here in school has one. I stopped my urge to text Patrick if where he was. I wanted to surprise him. The ballroom was filled with people and finding Patrick was hard. Then there he was, sitting at a table with his friends and their dates. But something was wrong. A girl was sitting next to him where I should be sitting. I pushed the thought away and approached Patrick trying my best to be charming.
“Hey baby.” I told him while smiling lightly and looking at him straight in the eyes. He stood up immediately and looked very surprised/
“Anne! Gosh! Y-Y-You’re here! I can’t believe it. Y-You attended the homecoming for the first time.” Why was he stuttering?
“Today’s special Pat. Of course I would attend.”
“Hi Anayah. Pat told me a lot of very interesting stuffs about you.” The girl who was with Pat stood up.
I looked at the both of them in total confusion before Patrick finally explained.
“Anne, baby. Forgive me. You didn’t informed me that you were attending. This is Cassandra Evans, she’s my date for tonight. I wish you could’ve informed me sooner, baby. I’m sorry. I promise, I didn’t know you were attending.” I wasn’t sure if what I heard was right because my eyes were almost blurry because I wanted to cry from disappointment.
“That’s okay Pat. Enjoy the night. Both of you.” I turned my back immediately to hide the tears that were slowly dropping. I didn’t know where to go and only trusted my feet wherever it will take me.
