"I spend a quarter of every day inside you. When you set limits outside of that I can't help but see them as arbitrary."-Sylvia Day (Bared to You, Crossfire #1)
So Far Away By: Martin Garrix & David Guetta
"It was very nice to meet you Lacy." I rose my drink in farewell at the blonde, a smirk curving my lips up at the fiery attitude she had suddenly revealed the later the night went on. My mind was slightly muddled with wine, my gate swaying as Jacob stood and shook his head, grasping hold of my elbow to keep me from toppling over. A very uncharacteristically me giggle bubbled out of my mouth as he led me away from our friends, waving goodbye. His breath was hot in my ear, the sounds of the wolves following trailing behind us.
"You are insufferable." He growled, huffing when I suddenly threw all my weight towards him, thinking it was the funniest thing in the world.
His words brought back the early days of my time in the palace when Elizabeth had whispered the same thing to me as her warm arms wrapped around my front, her body pressed tight to mine. Heat pooled in my core at the thought of my gorgeously headstrong mate and I groaned against the waves of desire suddenly clouding my mind. Jacob's eyes dilated at the scent of my arousal, grasping my wrists when I poked at his cheek, giggling as he scowled. My eyelids flickered closed as he weaved through the narrow hallways, many of which my father himself had carved into being. Raising my drink I giggled as I missed and white wine went flying all over him and I. He snatched my drink with a snarl, shattering the cup against the wall as we passed.
"H-hey!" I protested, yelping in pain as he ignored me and dug his fingers into the crook of my elbow, all but dragging me down the hallway. Grumbling under my breath I clutched the pendant at my throat as I stumbled along and tried to keep up. A sudden and nagging presence at the back of my mind caused me to wince as it attempted to pierce my foggy mind. I flicked it away in annoyance only for it to return tenfold, battering at my cloudy thoughts with all the strength of a battering ram. I winced as a sharp pain shot through my head along with an enraged roar, my eyes widening in drunken realization.
"Oh no." I burped and giggled, nearly face planting into the hard ground as he jerked me hard against his body, nearly sending me flying past him. "I think I'm in trouble." Jacob appeared to have not heard me as he hauled my ass through the system of caves, my drunk mind only barely registering the secret exit before he shouldered the heavy stone slab aside. I blinked at the sudden transition from torchlight to night sky, the chill in the air sending a shiver down my spine. A shock reverberated down my arm and I jerked, the reaction delayed as I dropped the amulet back between my breasts.
"You need some fresh air." Jacob grumbled, eyeing my every move, nearly jumping out of his skin as I squealed, feeling the dark wolf's gruff fur rub against my thigh. "That's the last time I ever allow you to have wine." He hissed, slapping my hand away from the animal's bared teeth when I reached to rub his ears.
"Wolfy." I cooed, a stupid grin on my face as I crouched down in front of the alpha, nearly falling on my ass. He growled at my closeness but landed a sloppy lick on my cheek. My chest grew hot and again I grasped the amulet, glowering at the offending metal and squinting at Jacob as he shouted in warning. My head flopped back and forth as he shook me roughly, ignoring the wolves as they huffed and melted into the bushes. I frowned after them, sad to see them go. My vision blurred black and white and I blinked rapidly, swaying on my feet.
