Chapter 12: The Quest Begins

Zac Pov

I burst into Chariclo's room and tossed Daredevil on the couch.

"Rachel!" Chariclo shouted. She ran towards her, everyone else just coming in. Then, just when you think things can't get any worse, Savannah falls into Felix's arms. We put her on the bed right next to the couch. Chariclo was just about to ask what was going on when Rachel screamed the prophecy for a second time.

"I was afraid something like this would happen. The next big prophecy." Everyone just stands in silence, taking in all the information that was just told. Child of pan? One is taken? What does it all mean.

"What do we do now?" Rayn asks

"We keep going like it's an ordinary day until dinner. When we repeat the prophecy and pick those who are going on the quest." Chariclo replied.

"Wait!" I say, "I know who's supposed to go on this quest."

"How would you know Zac?" Clare asks. All eyes are now on me.

"Savannah told me. She mentioned having dreams and that something involved all of us. Rayn, Jake, Felix, Clare, Savannah, Tatar, and myself included."

"All of you, just go amongst your day like any other day. We will deal with this at dinner, when they both wake."

The horn blew for dinner. With nothing to do, all of us had been sitting by the water, skipping stones. We ran up to the pavilion, scraped some of our food into the fire for our offerings, then kept eating. My mind is racing a mile a minute, remembering the prophecy. One is taken. But who? Fight for the sun? Or son? It could be someone's son or something. When life must end. Is someone going to die? Who?

"Attention! Attention everyone!" Chariclo shouted over all the noise. The pavilion went dead silent.

"Our oracle has spoken another prophecy. Therefore, a quest must be put in order." Chariclo repeated out the prophecy. "We already know who is going on the quest, but you must know who; Jake Jackson, Rayn Jackson, Clare Grace, Felix Valdez, Savannah, Zac Zhang, and Tatar Underwood." Everyone started whispering. "What's the prophecy?" "Who's Jake and Rayn?" "Are they related to Percy and Annabeth?"

Then I started thinking. How can we have a quest without needing to do something. We can't just wander around the country waiting for something to happen.

Suddenly, one of the veterans, Clarisse, ran up. I thought it was pretty weird because she hasn't been at camp for a while. She was in her late 30s and looked pretty young.

"Chariclo!" She yelled. "It's happening again!"

"What?"

"Monsters won't stay dead"

Chariclo still won't let us go on our quest, we know what our quest is, but she's still concerned. Normally, Rachel doesn't give a quest prophecy unless is has to do with a great prophecy, yet nobody knows what that would be. The days and weeks went past without anybody knowing what we would do next. Monsters kept invading the camp, but all we could do was scare them off or trap them. After countless times of trying to talk to everyone, we decided to have a meeting in our cabin after dinner.

"So, what are we supposed to do?" I asked.

"Chariclo said we aren't allowed outside of camp until we hear the great prophecy," Clare said.

"But we don't have that much time, either we leave soon or there will be nothing for us to do but run." Savannah inquired. "I've been having some. . .visions, I guess you could say." Nobody said a word, everyone taking in what we had heard.

"What did you see?" Jake asked.

"A monster, I can't describe what he looks like, but he has something, someone, everytime I see him. But I don't know who."

"Do you know where they are?" Felix commented.

"I- I'm not sure where." It's just a prophecy, it's not like anybody is going to die. With that, Rayn came out of her room dressed for combat with a bag on her shoulder.

"We either go now, or stay here in this damp house. I'm leaving in twenty minutes, whoevers coming with me needs to get ready now." Rayn ordered. At first, I thought she was joking, but then realized she was serious. I ran to my room and grabbed my weapons and traveling equipment. By the time I got back out, everyone was ready to sneak out of camp.

"Where are we going?" Savannah asked.

"Detroit" Rayn responded. "Somebody go get Tatar, he'll understand." Jake went to go look for him while the rest of us went to River Alpha. At about 11 p.m. we left the camp, not knowing how we were going to get to Detroit and not knowing what awaited us, but that is the adventure.
