We wake up before our alarms even go off, thanks to Joe blaring his song Lighthouse through the speaker in my room at 6:30. He even bangs some pots and pans together and sings along to be even more obnoxious.
"Joseph!" Nick says angrily as he gets up.
"What? I wanted to make sure you guys would wake up on time!" he says, giggling like a five year old.
"We're up. Will you turn that down now?" I ask, still groggy.
"No can do, cuz. This song's a bop," he says, taking my speaker and parading down the hallway with it.
"He's a fucking idiot," Nick says as he digs through his bag for clothes.
"And he's your brother, so what does that make you?" I tease him.
"Rude," he says, grinning.
I finally convince Joe to turn my speaker off and give it back to me, and then we all get ready to go. It doesn't take long since we're all excited to be there, and we don't want to take the time to cook and eat breakfast, so we just grab some granola bars and leave. Since Kevin was last to arrive yesterday, we take his car and off we go. As we drive, Joe DJs and we're stuck listening to Lighthouse again before he plays Cake by the Ocean, Sucker, and finally Lovebug, which we jam out hard to with all the windows down. Year 3000 comes on as we pull onto the Cedar Point causeway, but the music is forgotten because as soon as he sees the park and the rides, Joe's squealing with excitement. Literally squealing.
"Holy shit. Holy SHIT! Harper, this is dope! This is gonna be a blast!"
"Yeah, it is. This was a great idea, Harp," says Kevin, looking at me in the rearview mirror with a huge smile on his face.
I look over to Nick, and he gulps. I can tell he's nervous but doesn't want to show it.
"Nick?" I say tentatively.
"Yeah? Um, yea- I'm sure it'll be great. Looks nice," he rambles.
"Come on, Nick, you can't tell me this doesn't look awesome," says Joe.
"I'm excited, Joe. Really," he says, putting a smile on his face.
Joe and Kevin keep talking the whole drive onto the island until they put the car in park, and then we're all running across the parking lot to get to the gates.
"Should we get pictures before we go in?" asks Nick.
"Nah, we can get them before we leave. Let's go, Nick!" says Joe, grabbing my hand and pulling me into the park behind him. He's being a little kid, but I love his enthusiasm because I'm feeling it too.
Joe and I are standing in line for a ride before Kevin and Nick even get into the park, so I have to call Kevin and tell him where we are before they can even join us. We've picked GateKeeper to go on first, since it's right by the entrance, and for this one Joe and I will ride together. We've already decided this because we're the most into rides out of the four of us, though Kevin still likes them. We're not really sure where Nick stands right now.
"Nick, are you gonna go on?" I ask him when we're next in line.
"Yeah. Yeah, I'll go. I'm here now, so I can't chicken out," he says, still looking worried.
When we board the ride, Nick goes into the inside seat and Kevin takes the outside. Joe and I sit in the row behind them, me on the inside and Joe on the outside. I've already ridden this ride, so I want Joe to get the whole effect. We're even on the right side, farther away from Lake Erie but my personal favorite side of GateKeeper.
"You're gonna love this, Joey," I say as our harnesses are checked by the ride attendants.
"I already know I will," he says, eyes glinting as we start to move out of the station and up the hill.
As we near the top of the hill, I look over to Joe who has the biggest smile on his face.
"Hands up, loser!" I smirk, and he obeys quickly as we turn to go down.
He screams out of happiness as we twist over the entrance gates, and I'm silent with a huge smile on my face. In the row in front of us I can hear Kevin screaming like a little baby and nothing from Nick. He's probably in shock, honestly.
All too soon we are returning to the ride station, and as I lower my hands and look over at Joe, I laugh. His hair is sticking up all over the place but his eyes are somehow brighter than before with happiness.
"That was fantastic!" he says.
"You haven't seen anything yet," I joke, and his grin gets even wider.
"They get better than that?"
"A hundred times better. Just wait," I say, and we get off the ride.
We all troop down to the store where you can view your ride photos, and Joe and I laugh at ours. Nick seems to have had fun, however the picture would suggest otherwise as his mouth is in a round O and he looks petrified. Kevin has a huge smile on his face.
"Hey, that picture doesn't do me justice! That was a lot of fun," says Nick, fake pouting at the photo.
"Well, I'm glad you had fun, because that's one of the most tame rides at this park," I say, and Nick's jaw drops.
"Seriously? I'm screwed," he says, shaking his head, and Kevin, Joe and I laugh hysterically as we head back out into the sunlight.
