In the morning, Sophie's the first of the three of us to shower so her hair can dry, and I follow right after her as Joe continues to sleep. It's early, only 7:00, and we have some time to get ready since it's only a fifteen minute drive to the palace, but we want to be there a little early to see Nick before the ceremony starts. It's also a lot more work to get ready for a wedding when you're standing up in it, let me tell you. Sophie braids my hair into a crown after I shower, and I help her curl hers before we step into our identical bridesmaid dresses. We do each other's makeup, trying to look the best we can be for Nick's big day. Joe exits the bathroom soon after, wearing a sharp black tux with a white undershirt and black bow tie. Sophie helps him fix his hair neatly, and us two girls step into silver high heels as Joe puts on his shiny black dress shoes.
"Wow, I've got a crush on Nick's best man," Sophie jokes, and Joe laughs.
"You look great in that dress," he says, smiling at her.
I clear my throat pointedly at him, and he grins cheekily.
"You look nice, Harp," he says, and it's Sophie's turn to laugh.
We heat downstairs, climbing into the limo that is taking us and Joe's parents to the wedding.
"You guys clean up well," says Paul, making us grin.
"You too," Joe says back.
When we arrive at the palace, we marvel at the beautiful white and pink roses twisting over the marble archway at the altar before finally meeting up with Nick inside the ballroom. He's wearing a tux similar to Joe's, just a little more fancy, and inside his lapel is a piece of Priyanka's veil. It's a touching tribute, so touching that he makes his mom cry.
"Don't cry, mom," Nick says sheepishly, turning a little red.
"I just can't believe my little Nicholas is getting married!" she says, dabbing at her eyes with a tissue.
"Me either. Who would've thought a girl would like him?" Joe says, and Nick smacks him.
"Why'd I make you my best man?" Nick asks with a laugh.
"You love me," Joe replies as Danielle and Kevin arrive. It's time to take our places for the service.
"See you soon, Nicky," I say, and we go off to line up for the procession.
It's my uncle in the front of the line, as the minister, then all the bridesmaids and groomsmen paired up. Frankie and I are paired up, and we're in line just before Joe and Sophie, who bring up the rear. My aunt and Nick line up behind them, and then Priyanka's flower girl will proceed. Pri isn't in line yet because she can't be, but will follow after the flower girl. We wait for a few moments, and then it's 11:00 and we begin the service.
My uncle walks up the aisle alone, holding his bible as he climbs the stairs and stands in the middle of the altar. Then we proceed up the aisle, splitting off at the top so bridesmaids are on the left where Pri will stand and groomsmen are on the right where Nick will stand. Denise and Nick come up once we are all in position, and Nick stands in front of Joe, hands clasped in front as he waits for his bride. The flower girl comes, throwing red rose petals on the ground for Priyanka, and then soft music begins to play as we all wait with bated breath.
Pri is gorgeous in her lace and pearl dress, long white veil over her face. She lifts her head as she begins to walk, escorted by her mother. As soon as Nick sees her, he begins to cry softly as he beams out at her. She's smiling hugely back at him, and at this moment I know they are perfect for each other. When she comes to stand across from Nick, they grab hands and then they are both crying softly as they smile. Paul begins to talk, and soon enough they must share their vows.
"Priyanka-" Nick says, voice cracking. He's barely able to talk because he's overcome with so much emotion, and it makes me tear up a little bit. Even Joe is teary, which is something I'm not very used to seeing from him.
Nick makes it through the vows pretty well, and Priyanka shares hers, which are just as touching. The rings are presented, and they each slide the opposite ring on each other's finger.
"You may kiss the bride," Paul says, smiling brightly at his son and new daughter in law and Nick cups Pri's face to kiss her.
We all cheer as Paul moves to the side, creating a path for the newlyweds to walk through. Hand in hand, they strut down to the ballroom by themselves, pictures being snapped. Once they disappear, we follow in our pairs again, off to take pictures. First, Nick and Pri take a few solo shots on the stairs inside the palace.
Then, it's time for the group shot. We all line up in front of the palace together, husband and wife in the middle of us, celebrating as Nick and Pri kiss. We also take some serious shots, but no one likes them as much as the fun one.
After the pictures we head to the ballroom. It's time for the reception, time for the dancing, everything people love about weddings.
"Time for the food," Joe whispers excitedly, and I laugh again as we sit in our seats at the head table.
Time for the party.
