Today is October 20, and the boys just finished their first of two shows at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Tomorrow is the last show of the tour, and though it's exciting that my cousins' comeback tour is almost complete, it's also really sad. I'm disappointed to think about how after the show tomorrow, we are driving back home and going to our separate houses again. For the first time in months, we won't be all together.
"One more show," Nick says somberly as we lay in our bunks.
"We're going to kill it. Like, the most we've ever killed it," Joe says, and everyone agrees as we nod off to sleep.
The next morning, I wake up and notice that Nick, Joe, Kevin, and Laine aren't in their bunks. However, all the girls are still asleep. This seems weird, because it's not time for them to be at the rehearsal yet, and it's a new thing for all of my cousins to be awake before the rest of us. Then, I hear hushed voices coming from the kitchen downstairs, and I listen hard to try and make out some of what they are saying.
"I want to add a song to my setlist for tonight," I hear Laine say.
"Are you going to not play one of the other ones then? Or do you just want to add?" Nick says.
"Just add. I don't want people to get too suspicious," Laine responds.
"What do you mean, get suspicious?" Kevin asks.
"Trust me. I have a plan. And I'd like a blessing, from all three of you," Laine says, and I fall back asleep before I can hear any more of the conversation.
I wake up again at ten, about an hour before the boys are supposed to be starting their rehearsal. I get myself ready before going downstairs, and I'm the last person left in the bedroom by the time I accomplish this. When I enter the kitchen, Laine kisses me on the cheek and says good morning, while Joe just smirks annoyingly at me. I'm not sure why he is, but it seems like something he gets a kick out of doing, so I just ignore it as I pour some cereal and sit at the breakfast bar.
"Are you coming to the rehearsal today?" Nick asks Pri, and she shrugs.
"I'm not sure. We probably should, shouldn't we?" she asks, looking at me, Danielle, and Sophie.
"You guys don't have to. It's going to be the same as always," Laine says hurriedly, giving Nick a pointed look.
I remember the part of the conversation I heard this morning, about Laine wanting to add another song to the setlist. Does this mean he's not doing that, considering he said nothing was going to change? I shrug it off and continue eating.
"Oh, right, yeah. It'll probably be boring for you guys, so why don't you just chill here or something?" Nick says, obviously covering something up.
"Are you guys trying to hide something?" I ask, a little exasperated and deciding to just call them out on it.
"What? No! We just want tonight to be special, since this is it," Nick says, still not being very subtle.
"Yeah. It's got to be great!" Laine piles on, and Joe turns away to stifle laughter again. They're definitely hiding something, but if they won't tell me, then so be it.
"Okay, then we won't go to the rehearsal," I say, and for some reason they look relieved. Whatever.
"Should we just hang out here and watch movies or something?" Danielle says, and I nod.
When the boys head into the venue, Alena and Valentina lay on the living room floor as Danielle, Priyanka, Sophie, and I sit side by side on the couch and scroll through Disney+ to find a movie that will be fun for us to watch along with the girls. We end up choosing Zootopia, at Alena's request, and it turns out to be a much better movie than any of us were expecting. Then, we watch about half of Inside Out before we head to the dressing rooms to be with the boys for one last preshow.
