Early the next day, we arrive in Miami, at the American Airlines Arena, for the show rehearsal before the actual performance tonight. At this point nobody even minds that we have a long day of being at the venue ahead of us; it'll be an achievement to just leave the bus, but first Nick cooks us all pancakes in the bus kitchen.
"Figured we could use some food first," he says, and we all nod, wolfing down the food like we've never eaten before.
We're taken in through the back of the arena after we finish, to the hallway where the dressing rooms are. My cousins separate into their different rooms, bringing a few of their choice decorations with them, and I follow Laine into his. He's got a couch, bowl of snacks he likes, a tv, a minifridge, what more could you want? And of course his performance outfit, already hung up on a rack for tonight.
"I've never had a real dressing room like this before," he says, inspecting it all.
"It's pretty awesome," I say, nodding my head appreciatively.
"You ready, Laine? You're up first," Kevin says, entering the room after setting up his own, and Laine nods.
"It's not the rehearsal I'm worried for," Laine laughs, taking his guitar from the room with him as we leave.
My jaw drops when I see the inside of the venue; it's gigantic. I knew my cousins were popular, but selling this place out, now that's beyond my wildest dreams. And my boyfriend getting to play here, in front of this many people? Amazing.
"Wow," Joe says, apparently in awe himself.
"Didn't know you had this many fans," I joke, and Nick pushes me playfully.
"Of course we do, have you heard our music?" he says.
I stick my tongue out at him as the four performers get mic'd up backstage, getting ready to enter as they would for the real show. Danielle, Priyanka, Sophie, the two girls and I stand right under the stage to watch the show for the first time and try to make them laugh while they sing.
Laine sings through his entire set list beautifully, just as I knew he would, but before the Jonas Brothers set starts Laine joins us in front of the stage and Kevin pauses the rehearsal to make a TikTok.
"Kev, we're on a schedule," Nick laughs, trying to proceed with the show as normal, but Joe waves him off and dances around crazily.
"Who cares, the show doesn't start until 7:00 anyway! Let's just have some fun," Joe says.
The technology directors at the arena finally get them back on track, all of us on the ground watching roaring with laughter. They play parts of their set list to make sure the entrances will be right for the show, and then they take the mic's off. We still have about an hour before the show, so we all head into Nick's dressing room, which is the biggest, to eat dinner.
"We feeling Subway?" Nick asks, and everyone nods and gives their order.
The food arrives quickly, and we all watch the live broadcast from inside the arena while we eat. It's filling up fast, and the fans with the floor seats are piling in quickly in order to get the best location. Though this excites Kevin, Joe, and Nick, I can tell Laine's nervous about playing in front of so many people. When he finishes his sub, the two of us walk back to his dressing room alone so he can change and I can give him a pep talk.
"There's so many people," he groans.
"But listen. You're a great singer, and you're so confident around us. Just let that confidence, that personality, shine through and you'll do fantastic," I say, and he grins. "Trust me, Laine. I wouldn't lie to you."
