The Fan-Signing 1

Y/n waits in line beside hundreds of other screaming girls. The energy is high and her heart is in her throat. Here she is, finally, something she has yearned for a few years now. Exhaling deeply; y/n attempts to prepare herself to meet the members. She has never been to a fan signing before, but the chaos surrounding her is distracting enough for her to stay out of her head and freaking out.

During the past few years, she has worked hard on perfecting her Korean and understanding a native speaker in preparation for this day. Her Korean isn't fluent but she can understand general conversation and has made a few Korean friends who have helped her with learning better.

Going over the words she plans to say in her head, she breathes slowly, despite a sudden fear of getting something wrong.

As to avoid the ridiculously long lines, she made sure to arrive a day early- patient enough to stand in the heat of the Korean summer for long periods of time, but not to wait behind many other people.

Her friends are busy back home, but this is her holiday off work, so she took the opportunity she had to go to this event; meaning her phone and a book are her company. Well, other than the strangers next to her. They also seem prepared and are talking animatedly- gesturing and laughing.

As the sun starts to set, the night makes her hands shake and her teeth chatter, pushing her further into her blanket.

"Anyway, so I am so excited to see them!"  A girl called Sophie gushes to y/n. She joined the line only a few minutes or so after y/n and since then, they have been talking. She is a university student on her summer holiday, her friends Ruby and Emma joining her.

They were all introduced to one another, but they tended to have conversations by themselves which meant Sophie and y/n had a chance to get to know each other better.

Sophie is a history student studying ancient cultures and she also plays guitar in her free time. Although she has not hauled her guitar with her, she offered to sing for them, her soft voice had filled the buzzing night air with warmth and they had listened contently, worries and other distractions melting away.

The front of the building they have set camp in front of is tall, the size of two houses placed on top of one another. The architecture seems modern, the windows framed cleanly and the brick relatively bright compared to other dull coloured parts of Seoul. All of this succeeds in making y/n feel small.

Chattering and general noise add to the tension in the night air. The street is bustling with people, the blinding lights of Seoul surrounding everyone as anticipation grows. A slight breeze disturbs the air and causes y/n's hair to blow around softly, occasionally travelling onto her face, irritating her as she tries to rest.

The depths of the night are hushed and despite the cold nipping at her face, she falls asleep under the lamplight, dreaming of tomorrow's events.

Someone from BigHit staff ushers her through the gate, their firm build and unfriendly stare intimidating her, but she can see how they are bored, probably wanting to go home. It seems ridiculous to be bored at an event like this, but she supposes not being that interested in the celebrities and having to stand for hours, she would also want to go home.

Inside, the lights filling the room are a fluorescent white, illuminating the features of every person, leaving no place in darkness. The floor is a grey smooth marble that reflects the lights from above and creates an even lighter feel. The bustle and murmuring within here feel even more overwhelming than standing outside in the city breeze.

Stumbling up to the first member, her hands shake once again, this time with nerves and anticipation instead of the biting cold. Her muscles are tense, but she breathes through all of her anxiety and faces the member in front of her.

With a polite smile, Namjoon greets her, his face full of warmth and his eyes alight with intelligence beyond the surface.

She panics internally, my mind blank.

This man is the same one that she has watched on screens throughout the years, getting her through those times when she thought she wasn't worth anything or that she would never be able to achieve anything. How is she supposed to convey half of her gratitude in this short amount of time?

His light purple-dyed hair reflects in the light and his eyes scan y/n, waiting for her to show any sign of cognition.

Trying to play it cool, she regains enough brain functionality to greet him back. He seems mildly surprised by a reply in Korean, but he just smiles and asks how long y/n has been learning.

"Only two or three years now," she starts, blushing under his curious gaze.

"That's pretty impressive," Namjoon compliments with a dimpled grin.

Releasing her breath, she utters a reply, "Thanks, I am really nervous."

Namjoon sits idly, preparing himself for the next fan. A girl looks up with eyes full of fear and hair hiding her face. Her skin is pale and her hair is just past her shoulders. A white flowing summer dress and a silver necklace adorn her.

A flash of nerves pass over her features before she greets him in Korean.

He tries to listen to the words she is saying with intent, when she explains her nervousness he laughs gently, hoping to make her feel more comfortable. Her conversation interests him, so although they can only talk for a brief moment, he makes sure to pay attention.

Signing her posters while she talks, he listens to the distinct passion in her voice. She talks of language with a certain eloquence that makes him wish that they could have a longer conversation.

Namjoon is aware of the cameras and fans around him and knows that this is not something she would want to have put upon her shoulders. Her eyes spark with life and her face is an open book. There is something so welcoming about her presence, but he could never expect her to become someone he talked to regularly. He is only selfish.

He is snapped out of his reverie when she says goodbye and turns to Jin. They will probably never meet again. Sighing, he turns away, knowing he'll think of her today, even if it is only for today.
