I picked up
"Hello?"
"Hey Zo..."
"No Aaron you lost all rights to call me Zo when you left me without even an hours notice! How could you? You know I lay in bd all night the other day thinking about why we actually used to hate each other and I think I'm starting to remember."
"Okay Zoe I get that you're upset but please believe me when I tell you that I didn't know til only minutes after our date-"
"Still Aaron. I was on the phone with you. You could've told me."
"I know. And I should've. Honestly-"
The line fell silent.
"What Aaron?"
"Honestly I wish I told you the second I found out so I could spend the last hours I had here with you. Thats all I've been thinking about since I left."
"Oh...Are you coming back?"
"Yeah, I'm only here for a month and a half. Ill be back in the holidays."
"Promise?"
"Promise."
I felt like I should've told him about what happened with Jaden but that would've only upset him right? I hung up and got in bed to watch Big Mouth. I heard a knock on the door.
"Come in."
"Hey Zo..."
"Oh. Hi Jaden..."
I moved over in my bed and he came and lay next to me.
"Listen about last night..."
"Yeah I get it Jaden. It was a one time thing. That's why I woke up alone this morning right?"
"No! No. Zoe I've liked you for a while now okay? I didn't... make a move... because you were vulnerable or anything its because I honestly couldn't wait for you anymore."
"Jaden... I'm not sure how I feel."
"Thats okay. I don't expect you to... yet."
"Okay... thanks."
I put my head on his chest.
"Until you figure out your feelings wanna hang out?"
"Yeah. I'd like that a lot."
I smiled at him and he smiled back. We watched Big Mouth for a while and talked for ages until we fell asleep in bed. The next morning I woke up with his arm around me and my head in his chest. I tried to get up to make coffee but the second I moved he pulled me in closer.
"Don't go," he mumbled in his morning voice.
"Jaden I need coffee this isn't a joke. In fact it's a very serious matter."
"OK OK. Make me some too okay?"
"Of course."
I got up and threw on the first hoodie I saw. I noticed he was staring at me and he smiled. I smiled back and made coffee. The following five weeks continued in this manner. No, Jaden and I were not a couple technically. We agreed it wouldn't get serious any time soon but we enjoyed each others company and it was ice not to be alone. Until one day. Mila and I were eating take out Chinese food one night until I heard the doorbell ring.
"Max! Get the door!"
I heard someone shout from behind the closed door, "Ah so elegant. So poised."
I recognized that voice. I instantly got up and rushed to the door.
"Aaron?"
"Zo!"
He put his hands around my waist and pulled me in. His head was on top of mine. God I missed his hugs way more than I remembered.
"You weren't meant to be back until two week form now."
"Well its nice to see you too."
Chase came downstairs and saw Aaron. He quickly pushed me aside and gave Aaron a hug before pulling him away.
Aaron looked back at me.
"See you later Zo."
I smiled at him and he smiled back. He has such a beautiful smile. I missed that smile.
