SATURDAY, AUGUST 4
⟶ 7:00 PM"KNOCK KNOCK, I'M HOME!" I shout into the Atkin's household. Tonight is Hadley's birthday/pool party, so Erin and I decided to meet up at Kate's since she lives the closest to our friends house.
Kate's mom is the first one to greet me with a sweet smile and a bowl of popcorn in hand, "Hey, girlie, how's it going?"
"I'm doing good, how are you?"
"Great! We're watching Pretty Woman, Kate's in her room," she says before returning to the living room. I walk down the hallway and enter the second room on the left and cross my fingers that Kate isn't changing, but then again it wouldn't be the first time.
Kate is standing in front of her mirror while applying what I hope is waterproof mascara, "Are you ready!" she squeals excitedly.
I toss my bag on her bed and then recline against the multiple pillows she has piled up at the head of the bed. "Hell yeah, I'm ready to get my mind off of a few things," I say with a sigh.
Kate removes her gaze from her mirror to give me a concerned look, "Like what?"
"Everything I guess. School, Jack, the guys, Liam. I've just felt a little overwhelmed recently," I admit, but quickly try to change the subject since tonight isn't the night to be stressed. Tonight I'm letting loose with no distractions. "But I can't wait to go party with my best friends! Tonight is going to be the best night of summer break, I can feel it."
Kate returns her focus to her makeup, but I can tell she's not fully letting go of what I said. "Yeah, me too. And I've decided that we need to make sure none of us doing anything stupid, got it?" Her stare meets mine through the glass as she tries to drill this into my head, and I completely agree with her. Parties at Hadley's can get a little wild, so I'm thankful that we're sleeping there tonight and not having to stumble home.
"What did you pack?" she asks.
I unzip my bag and pull out the items as I name them, "An pair of underwear, t-shirt, shorts, bra, toothbrush, polaroid and extra film, and a sweatshirt."
"How the hell did you fit all of that in your bag?"
"Big bag means big packing."
"Smart, smart girl," she says with a smirk. "By the way, we're taking Erin's car since hers is the biggest and can fit the table in the back."
"Alright, Erin better get here quick because I'm ready to let loose!"
Erin finally arrived, late per usual, and we immediately hopped into her vehicle out of excitement to get to the party sooner. When we walk into Hadley's house, Kaia and Liz are already there sitting out bags of chips while Hadley reenters the kitchen from the garage with a dozen beers in her arms.
