I HAVE BEEN DREADING THIS DAY, I have been dreading it for months. In all honesty, I rather that today wouldn't happen and I could go on with my life as normal. Today is the first day of college. I guess it didn't really matter, I knew I would end up skipping courses. I skipped primary more than I could count on my two hands. But, I also knew that if I didn't show up, that they may send social services to come check up on my "home life." Which I didn't really have, my dad left my mum and I ages ago, then my mum up and left me. Her last parting gift was my university savings on my dresser, accompanied with a poorly written note explaining her ever so "tough decision," of going on an "extended" holiday away from me. I knew it wasn't a tough decision for her. If it was so hard for her to leave, she wouldn't of done it in the middle of the night without a whisper of goodbye other than her note. The only person that I had left that I could rely on was my friend, Effy Stonem. I have been friends with her for ages it felt like. She being the first to introduce me to her newly found life of drugs and parties. Since then, we have been inseparable.
I waited outside my house for her father's car to pull up, once it did, I got into the back, sitting in the seat that was directly behind Effy. Her father was a rather interesting character, to put it nicely, he had quite the mouth on him, I was afraid he could talk for hours. I leaned my head back, letting hit the headrest behind it. I spaced out for the majority of the ride, until the car came jolting to a stop, the crunch of the front fender pulling me out of my hazy state, my body slid forward, I quickly put my hands out to catch myself before I came crashing into Effy's seat, "Oi," I mumbled out in response to the sudden crash.
I heard Effy's body shift in her seat as he dad stumbled out of the car to assess the damage done to his vehicle, I looked up at Effy's face, she raised a brow, "Alright?" She questioned me, her eyes wandering over my body, as to check if I had any damage done to my body.
I lifted my hand to rub the back of my head, "Yeah, fine," I said to her, turning to look out the window, trying to get a read on what Mr. Stonem was up to. That's when I overheard him yelling obscenities left and right.
"You!" He pointed at an older lady who walked up towards the car, her eyes widened when shouted at her, "You saw this!" He continued to shout, she started to shake her head, insisting that she hadn't had a clue what he was on about, but, this just set Mr. Stonem off even more. "Are you blind?! Why is everyone fucking blind around here?" He threw his arms up in aggravation, swinging them through the air, he continued arguing with her, he insisted that the bike that caused him to swerve into the pole came out of nowhere.
I grew bored of the yelling, my gaze wandering from the agitated man to a group of boys that were sat at a table, a tan skinny one, a fit one in a red top, and a curly-haired boy, they all had eyes on us. The one in the red shirt was about folding over in laughter watching the situation. Effy looked at me through the side mirror of the car, following my stare, her eyes landing on the boys now as well, I looked over to her as she looked back at me once again, a smirk settled on her face, "Find yourself some boys already?" She questioned me in a teasing manner.
"I may have," I mentioned, watching her light a cigarette, she placed it between her lips, inhaling for a short second before she blew some of the smoke out from her nostrils, her eyes landing on the boys once again.
"Which one of them are you thinking of?"
My gaze fell on the one in the red shirt I was eyeing moments prior, he was now approaching Mr. Stonem, he had something on his face now, I lifted my hand, pointing him out, "Hmm," I hummed, a smirk on my lips, "That one looks like a great fuck."
"Is that your bike, you fucking idiot," Mr. Stonem shouted at him, pointing down at the mangled mess of a bike.
"I was signalin' you just kept comin'!" The boy argued back to Mr. Stonem, although, his stare didn't stay on him for long, his gaze landed on me for a moment before he looked back at Mr. Stonem as he started to argue with him more. I stared at him as the argument went on. The boy insisted desperately that he was hit by the car, then the old lady begun to agree. Obviously she hadn't seen what happened, considering nobody was ever on the bike. Especially this boy. But, she was sick of Mr. Stonem's attitude, and I couldn't blame her for that. And it wasn't long before he started shoving money at the 'injured' boy, telling him to just forget about it. Effy opened the door to the car, I flickered a stare over to her, opening my door as well to exit the car.
