Tetsurou's POV:
"You're doing it wrong." I looked up as finally something other than Daiki's loud wails was heard in the living room. The TV was still playing, and the girls were perfectly content watching the bright shapes move around. But of course, we had to have a problem child.
And of course, I had to volunteer to make him stop crying. Bad move. Bad move. Kozume was staring at me boredly – which I quickly figured out was very normal for him – as Daiki continued to screech. Did this kid ever shut up? My god.
"What do you mean?" I questioned, eyes snapped between him and the baby.
Kozume sighed and stood up, walking around the couch in order to stand at my side. "You're too stiff," he mumbled, eyes raising to meet mine. "Babies smell fear." I don't know if it was the way he said it or if he seemed to mean it, but I couldn't muffle the guffaw that came out of my mouth in response. I tried relaxing my arms, but if anything it only made him cry harder.
He sighed again, eyes focused on the baby as he shook his head. "Like this." He grabbed one of my arms, carefully moving it under the baby, reaching for my other hand and delicately placing it on the back of his neck.
"There," he said, gently pushing the baby closer towards me. Gradually he stopped crying and Kozume leaned away. "This is a way of bonding with babies. He doesn't know you yet, so this is the best way to get him to trust you." He shrugged and shuffled back to sit on the other side of the couch, pulling his knees up to his chest.
"Thanks, Kozume," I grinned at him and he looked up at me for a moment before quickly averting his eyes.
"Kenma." I tilted my head at him and his eyes flickered around the room. "Call me Kenma. I... I'm not a big fan of the whole formalities thing."
I quirked a brow at him but shrugged anyway. Alright, cool. I can do that. "Gotcha, Kenma." I winked, and he stared at me as blankly as usual. At least, what I thought was usual. I chuckled softly and stared down at Daiki; my eyes widened. He was asleep.
My grin widened as I lightly patted his back. "He's asleep," I whispered to Kenma, and he looked up.
He looked down at Daiki and smiled softly with a small nod. I was getting the hang of this. Ha. A doorbell rang, shattering the peace that had settled over the living room. I gasped, jolting slightly, turning my wide eyes towards the baby.
I breathed a sigh of relief when I noticed he was still sleeping. But seriously, who the hell would be here at this time? Everybody everywhere was eating dinner or something. I got up and carefully placed Daiki down on the couch, scratching the top of my head as I approached the door.
I checked through the window and I almost groaned, considering not opening the door. "Bro! I know you're in there, you asshole!" Bokuto screeched from the other side of the door. I heard a distinct "shut up, Koutarou." And I almost slumped in relief. At least Akaashi was with him.
With a deep breath, I forced a grin on my lips as I opened the door; I really didn't want to deal with him yet. I loved him, don't get me wrong, but I was a bit too tired to put up with his antics. "Bro!" he shouted, bulldozing passed me into the home.
Akaashi stepped in after him, giving me an apologetic look. Before I could tell him to be quiet – the last thing I wanted was for the babies to wake up again –, cries echoed down from the living room. I closed my eyes, groaning as I ran a hand down my face. There goes that.
Bokuto turned to me with wide eyes. "Bro, did you kidnap someone?" The cries got even louder and I pinched the bridge of my nose, deciding not to answer that. I walked away, inviting Akaashi in and locking the door, quickly hurrying into the living room.
Daiki had been the one to cry first – that much was obvious, and now the other two were reacting to the noise, too. Kenma was trying to soothe all of them, but they seemed adamant not to stop – not to mention, handling three screaming babies at once was definitely difficult.
Eventually we managed to calm them down again; or, rather, Kenma managed to calm them down again while I sat on the sidelines and tried to help. Keyword: tried. "Where did you rent these babies?" Bokuto asked excitedly, and I turned to stare at him dead in the eye, shaking my head.
"They're my kids, Bokuto." I looked back down at them, sighing. Asami and Chiaki were back to giggling and grabbing at Kenma's hair while Daiki brooded on his cushion.
He gasped, almost too dramatically. "YOU DIDN'T TELL ME YOU WERE PREGNANT!" Akaashi gave him a look and shook his head while Kenma simply raised his head, staring at him in confusion.
"Do I look pregnant to you?!" His face neutralized as he tilted his head, placing a finger to his chin before he shook his head, muttering conspiratorially under his breath.
"Then who's the mother?" he mumbled, eyebrows furrowing. Then his eyes landed on Kenma and I quickly held my hand up, shaking my head.
"That's our nanny, Bokuto." He slumped down in the chair, muttering incoherent things under his breath as the three of us simply stared at him. I ran a hand through my hair as I shot Kenma a grin. "Well, Kenma, that's my... best-friend, unfortunately." I shook my head again. "Kenma, meet Bokuto and his boyfriend Akaashi."
Kenma nodded awkwardly meanwhile Bokuto sat upright, face literally glowing as he waved over-excitedly. Then he paused, mid-motion, turning his furrowed gaze on me. "Wait... what do you mean, unfortunately?"
I laughed and shook my head, flopping down on my seat next to Daiki. Akaashi quietly came over and sat next to Kenma, asking if he could pick one of them up.
"Kenma... I didn't think I'd see you here," he said softly as he held Chiaki, who stared up at him and placing a small hand on his cheek. Ohoho, Bokuto might get jealous.
I sat up. "You two know each other?" Akaashi turned to look at me, nodding slightly before his eyes slid back towards Kenma.
"We used to work together." His eyes suddenly turned sympathetic as he placed a hand on Kenma's shoulder. "I'm glad to see you're doing okay." He smiled softly. Kenma only nodded and averted his gaze, not responding to his comment. My eyebrows furrowed as my gaze landed on Kenma. He didn't look at anyone else after that.
