Perched awkwardly on the edge of the couch, I sipped the very last drop of my champagne, my eyes stubbornly fixed on Marshall and the blonde. I wasn't sure if my stare was driven by disappointment or because the blonde radiated an allure that was hard to ignore.

Dressed in what could only be described as the aftermath of a violent disagreement between a miniskirt and a bandeau top, she stood as a walking, talking testament to the philosophy of "less is more" - less fabric, more attention.

Yeah, If fashion is a language, her outfit is screaming 'SOS'!

"I see you're enjoying the show!" Justin's voice drew my attention to him as he approached, offering me another glass of champagne. "Nice couple, huh?" he continued, his tone dripping with irony as he gestured towards Marshall and Janine. Is my stare really that obvious?

"Oh, absolutely captivating," I took the offered glass, letting the irony of his remark wash over me with a mix of amusement and embarrassment, as I glanced back at the duo, ensuring my gaze was fleeting this time. "I guess I didn't realize I was part of the audience," I mused, turning my attention back to Justin, thankful for the distraction as he settled next to me."Thanks for the champagne, by the way. It seems I'll need it to get through the rest of this 'performance.'" My words were tinged with humor, masking the underlying sting of disappointment.

Justin's laughter filled the space between us, a rich sound that seemed to momentarily push back the dim of the party. "Well, if it's any consolation, I think you're the most interesting part of the audience," he said with a wink, a warm flush of color swept across my cheeks, his words catching me entirely off guard. "And you're welcome for the champagne." He leaned back, his gaze sweeping over the room before settling back on me, a conspiratorial smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "So? Are you having a good time?" He asked, his voice carrying a genuine tone of interest.

"Yeah, it's not bad. The atmosphere is lively." My response was cautious, measured, but the small sip of champagne seemed to loosen the grip of my earlier reservations. The bubbles, playful and invigorating, danced down my throat, infusing a sense of lightness into my words. "How about you?"

"Same here. The vibe's good." His gaze, steady and reassuring, locked onto mine as he settled more comfortably into his seat. "Anything particular making it just 'not bad' for you?" he continued, the curiosity in his eyes mirrored by the slight tilt of his head, sipping from his glass as if to punctuate his question.

Taking a moment to ponder, I replied, "Well, you know, parties aren't exactly my scene. I prefer quieter settings." As the words left my mouth, I felt a sense of vulnerability, a hint of concern lingering about his reaction. Marshall's mockery of my preferences still echoed, and I half-expected Justin to follow suit.

"Fair enough," Justin replied, his voice imbued with an understanding that drew my gaze back to his. He leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a confidential murmur, as if about to share a secret just between us. "Actually, how about we step out for some air? Get a bit of quiet," he suggested, his eyes hinting at an escape from the overwhelming atmosphere.

Surprised by Justin's suggestion, I found myself nodding before fully processing it. "Yeah, why not?" I agreed, just as I caught Marshall's eye from the corner of my vision. His usually composed demeanor seemed to waver, his gaze intensifying as it landed on Justin and me, especially with the blonde girl now comfortably seated in his lap. "Let's go!" I said, a bit more eagerly than intended, standing to follow Justin. He reached for my hand, his grasp gentle but firm, guiding me through the throng of people towards the terrace of the house.

Once we were away from the noise and the prying eyes, Justin turned to me with a smile that was both disarming and genuine.

"Much better. Needed a break from the madness," he remarked, his voice a warm refuge against the cool night air.
