Chapter 3

I head into school and ignore the shocked faces. I walk straight to my locker like nothing is different. Tanner is already there, smooching some girl. I'll admit, the first time he did this I was shocked. I had thought Tanner was gay because of his rainbow mohawk.

"Hey, Tanner. How was your weekend?" I ask. I'm not really surprised to see him practically fucking the girl- he's a bit of a man whore. He rips away from her and looks at me with a lazy smirk.

"It was pretty good-" He stops and stares at my shoulder. "Man, there is a baby dragon on your back." I nod like its nothing important. I just have a baby dragon laying on my shoulders.

"Yup. Hey, do you know what's for lunch today? I forgot mine" I try to distract him as I shove my books in my locker, but it didn't work.

"Jack... a baby dragon... on your shoulders..." Okay so maybe I should have forced Tyson to stay home, but he was crying and begging me not to leave him! He started giving me the puppy dog eyes and I couldn't resist! Especially since what hes been through!

"Yeah... That's Tyson. I'm kinda his mom now so..."

"What." He has forgotten all about the girl, but I think shes forgotten all about him too. Both are staring at Tyson. I feel a little aggravated that they won't stop making him uncomfortable.

I sigh and shake my head. Tanner is so thick in the skull. I just grab his arm and lead him to our homeroom. When I sit down I gently shake Tyson awake. (How he didn't wake up from the buzz of the halls astounds me.)

"Hey, you gotta go in my bag now," I say, picking him up and siding him into my bag. Tanner is still staring at me dumbfounded. I ignore him and play on my phone.

---

"Do you want a corn-dog or spaghetti?" I ask Tyson as we hide in the bathroom. The teachers do not know I have a kid with me. Obviously the rumor got around that I walked into school with a dragon on my shoulders, but that's not something easily believed so the teachers ignored it.

"Corn-dog!" Tyson shouts. I nod with a smile.

"Okay. Do you want to stay in here for a bit longer or are your ready to shift again?" Tyson had complained a bit about being stuffed in a bag, but I had already explained that if he were to be going to school with me he would have to stay in my bag.

"I'm ready." He says and transforms into his cute dragon form. His scales pattern is black everywhere except for the front side of his neck and belly. He told me that all baby dragons have a white bottom and a dark top so when they are flying the white side blends in with the sky when other dragons look up and the dark side blends in with the ground when they look down. The scales will change pattern when the kids reach a good size. I hold out my arm and he flutters up into it; he can't fly all that well yet. He told me his parents hadn't taught him.

"Let's go, I'm hungry!" Tanner shouts from outside the bathroom door. He agreed to guard the exit for me. I help Tyson back into my backpack and walk out.

"C'mon Mr. Hunger." I chuckle as I pull the door open making him stumble.

He grumbles the whole way to the cafeteria and through the line about how mean I am making him wait to eat. I snort as he says "Bitch, I'm a unicorn, I deserve better than this."

"Two corn-dogs for both," I tell the lunch lady, putting down two trays. I put a couple of different veggies on Tysons and I's trays before paying and going to a table. I sit down (Tanner sits down next to me and immediately shovels food like a pig) and put my bag on the seat next to me. I pop the corn-dogs off their sticks and unzip my bag, unceremoniously dumping Tysons tray into it. A pea gets stuck on his head so I flick it off. Tyson is in the second pocket that I don't have my notebooks in so I don't worry about getting food everywhere. I can hear him eagerly devouring everything.

----

"Jack? Can I ride the bike after school?" I hear Tyson ask. We are in the school bathroom again, he really had to pee and I'm taking a break from math.

"Sure, kid." I nod adding, "Do you want to hit the mall to get some clothes?" He's still wearing the shirt and shorts I shrunk for him.

"YES!" Tyson screams, beaming up at me. "THANK YOU JACK!" I feel a grin take over my face.

"No problem, Tyson."

----

"Let's go, lets goooo!" Tyson shouts, running to my bike. I chuckle and run up behind him, swinging him into the air and dropping him down on my bike. He giggles and reaches for my helmet. I hand it to him and swing my leg over the bike.

"Ready?" I ask, revving the engine. (It catches everyone's attention)

"Ready!"

I drive off ignoring the stares. (I seem do be doing that a lot lately)

I take a couple of back roads and speed up a bit on them. I use magic to make a sort of windshield on my head so the wind doesn't kill my eyes. I can hear Tyson giggling behind me and it warms my heart. We eventually get to the mall and head to the Goodwill. Obviously I don't have tons of money to buy him a lot, but I plan to practice shrinking and enlarging my clothes so he can wear them. I let go of his hand, letting him find a few things to try on.

"Jack, can we have a matching outfit?" Tyson asks, pointing at a leather jacket. I grin and the thought of me pulling up to school on my bike, us in matching outfits, and cool sunglasses invades my head.

"Hell yeah!" I cheer.

He was beaming the entire time we shopped and it must have been contagious cause I was too. When I paid, (I blocked the price from my memory) Tyson hugged me tight and whispered a heartfelt thank you that melted my heart. And no matter what anybody tells you I did not tear up!

"Hey, Bud, what do you say we get some dinner then head out?" I asked him as we left the store.

"That would be super cool! Can we get that one?" He asks pointing to McDonald's in the same plaza. I nodded and crouch down.

"Get on."

Tyson grins and jumps on my back. It's a little tricky carrying him and the bags, so I use a little strength and balance magic to make it easier. Tyson talked my ear off about tons of things he liked (fast cars, flying, and s' mores) until we got to the building.

"Chicken nuggets or a burger?" I ask as I put him down at a table with our bags.

"Chicken nuggets!" He says bouncing in place. I grin at him and ruffle his hair.

"Got it, Bud." I walk up to the counter (keeping an eye on Tyson)

"Hello, what can I get you today?" The cashier asks. I give her a slight smile and ask for our food. (Nuggets for him, a burger for me, with milkshakes)

"Your food will be out soon." She mutters when its all over and done with. I walk back to Tyson.

"Jack, can you help me get better at flying?" He asks as soon as I sit down. I think for a minute. In human form, I wouldn't be able to help him much, if at all. But if I were to shift into a dragon and use telepathy, I could help him... But then he would know I'm a Jack. It took one look into his pleading eyes for me to know my answer.

"Of course Bud."

"Thank you so much! Your the best dad ever!" I freeze as Tysons eyes widen and he slaps his hand over his mouth. I barely notice because my head is busy repeating the word "dad" over and over again in my head. Tyson thinks of me as his dad? Already? After only 3days? I feel my heart burst and a warm feeling takes over my chest.

"It's okay. I think of you as my kid, Tyson. I love you, alright?" I really don't know why I became so attached to Tyson so fast, but I am more than okay with it.

"Really!? Can I call you dad?" My heart clenches again.

"Yeah. Yeah of course." I breathe out, ruffling his hair.

Our little moment is ruined by my name being called. Tyson runs up to get our food, leaving me to deal with my overwhelmed heart. Watching him walk over extra slow so he doesn't drop the food gives me a proud father feeling, and honestly? I couldn't be happier.
