Evelyn's POV

I heard a loud sound making me wake up. Knowing it was just dad I got out of bed and made my way to the kitchen. There I was greeted by my dad. It was weird he was in his work robes. He has a break from work during summer since he's a teacher at the one and only Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This year will be my first year at Hogwarts, and I am so excited. I finally get to go to most amazing place of all times.

"Where're you going?", I said knowing he wasn't staying in the house with those clothes.

"I have...work to be done with", he said not even looking at me. I was always sad when he was talking with me in his monotone voice.

"Well, are you going to get back soon?", I asked with a sad face.

"I don't know... I'll see how long it'll take", he said taking his briefcase and going to the front door, with me following. He turned to me. "Now, You know the rules", I nodded.

"Don't unlock the door only when I hear the 'special' knock. Keep the windows and curtains closed no matter what. And", I sighed, "no desert before dinner", he nodded.

"Very well", he unlocked the door. "I'll be back as soon as I can. If I'm not back until Sunday night", he reached into his coat's long pocket and took out a piece of parchment and gave it to me, "take the broom from the basement and go there. There won't be anyone just an house elf. Tell it you're the daughter of an old friend of Regulus Black. Now, I have to go.", he got on his knees reaching my level. He put his hands on both sides of my head. "Be good", he said and kissed my forehead. I nodded and looked down.

Before I knew it he was gone. I locked the door and went to my room. Tomorrow was supposed to be my birthday. My eleventh birthday which meant I am going to start Hogwarts this year. My letter didn't arrived yet but dad assured me it will come.

I was sitting in my bed, hanging upside down, being obviously bored. Suddenly a thought came to my mind. I got up and went into the basement and took dad's old broom. I didn't know how to fly it, but I read a lot of books about how to do so. Dad's broom wasn't the fanciest but neither the worst. It was quiet old though, he used it in the time he was still in Hogwarts. The model was however a Shooting Star. I took it and went into the backyard. Before I could exit the house she thought about the rules. even though I wasn't allowed to go outside, I did it several times during the times dad was out with work and stuff. He couldn't keep me locked inside forever.

I knew about dad's broom. I saw it about three years ago when I was putting some old boxes full of random old stuffs into the basement. Since then, whenever dad was out, I went there. First I was always practicing into the basement. Step by step I was taking it out of there. Soon it was in the backyard with me practicing almost everyday. One day he even caught me flying it. He was so mad at me, I was surprised he didn't grounded me that day. He forgave me after a half an hour everything happened, which I was glad because he was everything I had. I never knew my mother, she died in the first wizarding war. However I never cried over her death, I didn't have a reason. Dad always told me that mom would want me to be strong, and so I was, so I have never cried. I never knew how it was to cry, and I never wanted to know.

I was outside at the moment. I took a deep breath and placed the broom on the ground. I stood up and sticked my right hand out above the broom. I closed my eyes concentrating on what I wanted the object to do. I wanted it to fly right into my hand. After my mind was finally clear I opened my eyes.

"Up", I said, and right immediately the broom flew up into my hand exactly how I wanted it to.

I grabbed a firm hold of it. I looked up at the sky and took a deep breath, then I slammed my heel on the ground and the broom took wing with me on it. It was my first time flying outside, so I was scared to not get lost. The wind was messing up my hair and I could barely see a thing. I leaned on the broom, until I was inches away from the stick, to control it. Soon I was flying smoothly. I sighed in relief. I looked down. I was at least twenty feet away from the ground. The feeling of flying was indescribable. I loved it. I smiled to myself, feeling a rush of adrenaline taking over me. I screamed. I was free. Out of that room. It was epic. I turned the broom around so I could land perfectly fine. I was flying around until I finally reached the ground. As soon as my feet touched the ground, I fell on the grass. I looked up at the sky. It was kinda clear, just a few clouds floating around into beautiful forms.

It was getting late, almost supper's time. I barely ate today but I wasn't hungry. I got up and went inside. I took the broom into the basement and went to my room. It was a quiet day, I spent it all outside, enjoying the summer breeze on my skin. This was one of the rare days I didn't break anything. Whenever I broke something dad would look at me with his famous annoyed look, while I'd look at him smiling shyly, trying to hide the fact that I was a mess. I set on my bed looking at the stars outside my window. They were beautiful. I was starring at them so deeply I didn't realise it was past midnight.

A loud noise make me wake up from my trance. I looked around the room. It was nothing there. Then I looked back out the window and saw... an owl? A million thoughts were running around my head. It was 1 AM. The daily post only come at 7 AM. Or maybe it was from dad. What if something happened to him? Or he wrote me to go to that empty place, what was it named...12 Grimmauld Place, I suppose. However I opened the window and the owl flew inside, dropping the letter and getting out of my room, which was strange but I didn't think too much of it. I approached the letter and pick it up with shaking hands. I read what was writing on the back of it. I froze when I saw it was delivered to me. I turned it around to open it. It had a red wax seal with a "H" in the middle of it. I took a deep breath and opened it with shaky hands. I took out the letter and opened it. It read:

HOGWARTS

SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY
Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore
(Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc., Chf. Warlock, Supreme Muqwump, International Confed. of Wizards)

Dear Miss Snape,

Deputy Headmistress

Once I read the letter, I was revealed it was nothing bad. I couldn't wait to start school. I looked into the envelope looking for the list with everything I needed. I was beyond happy. I couldn't stop smiling. I waited for this letter almost my whole life and it was finally here. I couldn't wait to tell dad I finally received it.

The next day I've been waken up by a knock on the front door. I got up and went downstairs. I heard whoever was out there knocked again. I finally realised who it was and unlocked the door. There was dad. He entered the house and put down his briefcase. I smiled at him.

"You're back", I said giving him a hug. He hugged back.

"Yes", he said. I pulled away smiling big at him, he looked at me suspicious. "Did something happened?"

"Nothing to worry about", I said continuing smiling.

"Are you sure?"

"Totally", I said. "It's just that last night I received a letter"

"Really? Who was it from?", he said calmly, which it was strange, he barely let me talk with someone in the village.

"You know, don't you?", I said crossing my arms.

"Hogwarts right?", he said and I rolled my eyes smiling. "We'll go to the Diagon Alley later today.", I just nodded and went to my room to change my clothes.
