A New Proposition

I opted to sleep in a guest room after the confrontation with the leaders of the pack. It was a quaint room with two full beds and a small attached bath. Right now Raven and I were both lying in the beds staring at the ceiling. We were going to sneak out of pack ground and head into the main town for a bit. We both wanted to get away and to have a chance to fully understand the other.

"You and Jason are very close for mates."

I turned over to face Raven in the opposite bed. "Yeah, I know. I wish I could have chosen my own mate instead of being stuck with an asshole. Do you get assigned a mate? How does that even work now that you're technically dead."

Raven chuckled, " I'm free to choose whoever now. I've never been confined to a person I'm destined to be with. I never even really had the chance to have a true partner in my past life. I bounced around way too much."

"You seem like the type to be a ladies' man." I mused.

"Not just for the ladies, If I liked a person then that was that. Never cared much for setting a type. If I found you attractive then I wanted to get to know them and see if I could see a life with them. Who knows what would have happened if I never died." He paused, "Though, being given this honor has made it all worth it."

We let silence fall between us and we both retreated to the thoughts in our heads. I was anxious to get away from this pack house and to have a moment to breathe. The anger that has been surfacing is becoming a constant feeling, it's one that I wish I could rip from my chest. Maybe we should go and figure out what God's power I hold.. maybe that will give us an answer on learning how to control this. The world has so many different gods from so many religions.. how can I narrow it down to one? Is there even one that fits what I am?

"I'm going to get some rest, sleep well." Raven turned the light off and rolled over away from me. I followed suit and faced the opposite way. I felt too anxious to sleep. I stared out the window into the black inky sky. Something seemed like it was calling to me.

I looked back to Raven before quietly rising and walking to the window. I rested my palms on the sill and stared at the forest beyond. A pair of eyes met mine just beyond the trees. I froze up at the sight, and I felt a chill run up my spine. How has no one been alerted to a trespasser on the land?

The eyes blinked twice at me, beckoning me to come out. I looked back to Raven, his breathing was heavy, and soft sounds slipped past his lips.

Do I go?

Yes.

I silently slipped from the room and down the hall of the house. I paused at the backdoor, resting my hand on the door. I held my breath as I listened for any sign of life from within the walls. All was calm.

I turned the lock and opened the door. The air was crisp and I welcomed it with open arms. I pulled the door closed behind me and began walking toward the woods. I couldn't see the glowing eyes anymore and I was beginning to wonder if I had made it up.

I broke into the trees and continued moving till I was surrounded. I paused and looked around, trying to find the eyes.

"I'm surprised you even came out." A smooth voice called.

I spun around. trying to find who was speaking but I came up blank.

The voice let out a small laugh, " I'm not that stupid."

"Show yourself. How did you sneak onto our territory?" I felt my anger rising slightly.

"I'm not answering either of your questions. I'm here to offer a proposition that I want you to think over."
