angels & devils

I've got angels and devils on both my shoulders,
listening to one and the other - i put its words into folders,
tug of war with my heart,
the opposition must've had a quick start,
cos i've been pulled across the ages,
while floating on clouds drunken by angels prayers,

can't you see I'm in a prison of your orders?
they whispered to me to never upset you even if you're colder,
i'd do anything to remain peaceful in your eyes gaze,
kiss your feet, nod my head,
i live to surrender in your haze,

I've loved wrong and only now i can admit,
i wasn't loving myself dancing on your tongue when you devour bit by bit,
played it soft and now i think my hands are rough and tender,
took me repeated beatings to wake up and remember,

some days I'm sorry if i don't seem so present,
i guess listening to the devil brought me good under the moons crescent,
and its an ongoing battle knowing the truth in my soul,
whether i belong down on my knees,
or my new ways can bring us shoulder to shoulder.
