Dear Diary,
What's the worst part of starting a new school?
Leaving your friends behind, yeah...
New dorm room, yeah...
But I think overall, the worst part is that it's an all-boys school, I'm gay and I have to share a room with 3 other boys.Thankfully, one of them is my stepbrother. But still. I'm on the train now.
Yes, a train. A fluffing train. It's not that far from our house, but we still taking the train because my parents don't want to drive. At least we're starting at the beginning of the school year. Papa says that me and my new stepbrother, Virgil, will probably share a dorm. We're new and brothers. So at least there's someone that I know there.Virgil's not a bad person. He's kind of private though. He always has bags under his eyes and the only time I've seen him without his headphones on is when we're eating dinner, and even then, he wears his hood up, sometimes with a hat underneath. I'm a little worried about him, but I don't want to invade his privacy.
I think that's it now.
Sincerely
-PattonI saw Virgil shift in his seat as there was a bump in the tracks. He had his hood pulled over his headphone and he was staring out the window. His eyes were half shut, he's clearly tired. Under the hum of the train, I could hear Virgil humming. I pulled out my phone to check the time. It was supposed to be 2 hours. Only 12 minutes left.
"Are you ready, Virgil?" I asked. Virgil glanced at me. "Virgil?" He pulled down his headphones.
"You talking to me?"
"Yeah. Are you ready?" I asked. He huffed a laugh.
"Hell no. You?"
"I'm afraid. But at least we have each other, right Virgil." I said with a smile on my face. Virgil sighed and rolled his eyes.
"Sure. At least there's that."
"Virgil, I mean it. We're brothers now, you can come to me for anything. You can tell me anything, I'll help you." Virgil just rolled his eyes. He pulled his headphones back up and returned to staring out the window. I fiddled with the pom-pom on my phone case.
The way this train works, is that the cares have a few rooms in it, each with a door, you know, like Harry Potter. Well, the door opened. Someone who was clearly a teacher was holding two boxes.
"Okay, these have 3 school uniforms, your schedules and dorm room." He picked up the top box with his other hand. "Patton Hart." He said as he handed me the box. "And Virgil Storm." He said as he handed the other box to Virgil. "Do you have any questions?" It didn't look like Virgil was listening, his headphones were still on and he was looking out the window.
"How many people are in our dorm rooms?" I was surprised by his asking.
"Four." The teacher said.
"Anything you think we should know before going in?" I asked. The teacher took a breath.
"Stay out of Mr Dunbar's way. Make a good first impression, especially on him." I stifled a laugh.
"And what's your name?"
"Thomas Sanders. I'm the student councillor. Due to the fact that I'm almost always on call, I'm going to live in the teacher dorms." Thomas said. I smiled.
