Cameron became your friend while he was still chasing after Bianca Stratford. You thought they made a cute couple, but when they broke up, you weren't surprised. They had little in common, and you had watched it drive a wedge in their relationship after a year.
Despite the major crush you had developed on him in that time, you would never say you were happy they broke up. It felt icky to think that about someone's relationship, especially when you and Michael had spent a month pulling him out of his post-breakup funk.
Now it was just habit to keep him occupied after school. You rotated study session locations among your houses, and today was your house. Cameron rode with you, but Michael had a club meeting so he was held up.
Upon entering your room, Cameron made a beeline for your CDs. You had close to a hundred, and since you got a job, all your money went to gas and new CDs.
"You made a CD for your wedding?" He pulled it out of its sleeve in your CD book. "Why did you name it 'Potential Wedding'?"
You shrugged, turning away from him. "I like to be honest with myself. I may not get married."
"Why not?" You didn't see it, but his face dropped at your words.
"I dunno. Someone might not fall in love with me. I don't want to get my hopes up about getting married. You know, in case it just doesn't happen for me." You hadn't meant for that sound as pathetic as it did.
"You'll get married," he replied, putting the CD in the player.
"Thanks for the encouragement." You finally looked at him as he pressed play. "And if I don't get married, I'll let you have the CD for yours."
He smiled at you, crossing his arms. "You'll let me have it for my wedding?" His head bobbed along to "I Feel The Earth Move" by Carole King.
"Yeah. I want someone to use it, so if I don't get to use it, I want you to be next in line."
"Well," he drew it out, thinking. "What if we both got to use it?"
"That makes it a little less special, don't you think? If you want that one so bad, you can have it. I won't get married so that you can have the playlist." Something in you was saying he meant something else, but you were never one to jump to conclusions, especially when it came to boys. Their brains just... didn't make sense to you sometimes.
"Stop saying that. You're going to get married."
That feeling spiked again, but you composed yourself. "What makes you so sure?"
"Because I want to marry you, Y/n."
Your breath hitched. Your heart was trying to claw itself out of your chest. "You do?" you whispered.
"More than anything." He was looking at you like you were the only thing that mattered. "And I hate hearing you talk about how no one will love you and you'll never get the wedding that you clearly want so bad because I do. I love you so much, and you deserve a wedding if you want one."
"I never thought-"
You were interrupted by the knock at your door, promptly followed by Michael's head peaking in.
"Hi, there. Hope I'm not interrupting." He had that oblivious grin on his face that was normally endearing.
"Actually," Cameron interjected before you could find your words. "Perfect timing. We were just planning our wedding, and I've decided I want you as my best man."
I never realized how many ppl knew/liked this movie until the last few months bc of TikTok. How come everyone seems to love this movie but no one talks about it?? Also, as much as I love Bianca and Cameron, I've always thought the snobbish pretty girl x hopeless nice guy trope was whack bc what is their relationship built on?? Him helping her get a date and then getting mad when she continued her shown behavior? Uhh chile anyway so
Idk why I felt like ranting in an authors note but yeah. I wrote this instead of my history essay ✌🏼😄 M'kay.
