Kirstie has her phone in one hand and the other is held tightly by Avi as they rush out of the back entrance of the doctor's office so they don't get seen.
"We need a witness," Kirstie tells him.
"Kevin," Avi says.
"Perfect, I'll call him, Mitch too, and tell them both to meet us at the registry office or they'll miss out, but I won't tell them what they're missing out on."
"Rock 'n' roll," Avi smiles.
"Rock 'n' roll," Kirstie giggles and gets into the passenger side of Avi's car....
Kevin finds Avi in the hallway of the registry office waiting outside the bathroom. "What are we doing here? Are you wearing a suit-no!"
"We're waiting for Kirstie to get changed," Avi glosses over the fact that Kevin has probably figured it out.
"If she comes out wearing a white dress then so help me-"
"So help you what? What are you gonna do Kev, stop us?"
Kevin doesn't know what to say, Avi's right, he can't stop them, and really what reason is there to stop them? "Okay then."
Avi smiles, "See, I knew I could count on you," he holds his arms wide open and Kevin hugs him with a chuckle.
"So why now?" Kevin asks.
Avi shrugs, "Reasons."
"Reasons?"
"Yeah, reasons I'm not at liberty to disclose, yet."
Kevin nods slowly, "Right."
"Right."
Kirstie steps out of the bathroom with a big genuine grin and a twirl in her lace white, low-cut, long sleeve dress with an asymmetrical hem.
"You look beautiful," Avi tells her, big smile himself.
"Thank you, like I know, but still, thank you," she teases. "So Kev, have you figured out what's happening yet?"
He nods, "Yes I have Kirstin, and I'm happy to be your witness," He smile's biting his tongue because he is happy for them, even if he doesn't think it's a good idea. "Am I the only one you invited?" Kevin asks as the three of them fall into step down the hallway.
"No, Mitch is coming," Kirstie informs him. "But he's only got five minutes before we just go ahead and do this without him."
"Right," Kevin says.
"Yeah, this is kind of last minute, didn't plan too far ahead," Avi shrugs as he takes Kirstie's hand in his.
"No, no, I can see that," Kevin laughs. "Can I just ask why this is happening like this? I'm not against it, you're adults, you can do what you want, but why not wait and have a proper wedding with all your friends and family?"
"We might do that one day, but we want to do this now so that we have some time to enjoy it for ourselves before it becomes a spectacle for the world to see," Avi tells him.
"Oh that's good," Kirstie tells him.
"So is that not the actual reason then?" Kevin pulls them to a stop.
Avi gives Kirstie a look before he speaks to Kevin. "That's partially the reason. Just trust us and we'll tell you the real reason when it's time for you to know."
"Okay-" Kevin wants to say more but he's cut off.
"This better be worth it, I'm missing a massage appointment for this," Mitch is loud as he saunters towards them.
"They're getting married," Kevin tells him.
Mitch's jaw drops, "I'm sorry, what the actual fuck? Kirstin I have not given him my stamp of approval," he looks Avi up and down.
"I don't need your approval Mitch, I love him and I'm marrying him," she leans into Avi's side.
Mitch nods slowly with a click of his tongue, "Cool, so when's the due date?"
Both Kirstie and Avi go rigid.
Kevin's eyes go wide, "Of course."
"There is no 'of course," Kirstie scoffs.
"Very rude to assume," Avi tells them.
"And you two were too quick to reply; also you two have been together five months. But it is the 21st century, people don't care about marital status these days. So what if you have a baby out of wedlock, who fucking cares!" Mitch tries to argue.
"I care," Kirstie says. "And I love Avi, and we're getting married. I didn't invite you here to judge me, I invited you because you're my best friend and I want you here."
Mitch smiles, "Okay I'll shut up, but I have one more thing to say."
Kirstie rolls her eyes.
"Not like that," he laughs. "Just that I would have dressed better... I look like shit."
"Well don't worry," she releases Avi's hand and slips her arm through Mitch's. "This is just the official stuff, one day we'll have like a proper ceremony and get super dressed up and all that," she smiles.
"Good, there was no way I was gonna let you rob me of that anyway," he teases. "Now let's get you two married!"
Kirstie squeals and latches back onto her husband to be. They walk a few steps ahead of Kevin and Mitch.
Kevin leans in to whisper to Mitch, "I still don't think it's a good idea."
He replies, "No it's fucking stupid."
"But we have to let them or we're bad friends."
"Exactly," Mitch agrees as they follow their joyous, respective best friends to the counter to be married.
