Jade’s POV
I kicked the door open with my foot and walked in real quick as I heard it slam shut again. I set my box down and held the door open to let Justin in. “Where should I put this?” He asked motioning to the box. “Oh anywhere really” I said as he dropped it at his feet. He looked up at me and smiled, putting out his hand he said “Well hi, I’m Justin.” I laughed and slowly took his tatted hand and shook it once, “Hi” I giggled “I’m Jade.” “Well it’s nice to meet you, Jade” he said with a smirk as he released my hand. I just smiled back shyly as we stood there for a second.
“Well we should hurry before it gets dark” I said breaking the silence. “Good idea” He said as he followed me back out to the truck where my dad and the woman were still talking. It was weird seeing my dad be so comfortable with her, she would only ever fight with my mom. And yes, I mean fight. As Justin and I came towards them they had realized how late it was getting, we unpacked the rest which didn’t take too long.
After the last box went in the house we were all standing on the deck. “Thank you guys so much for helping us, it wouldn’t have taken a lot longer with just us two” he said placing his hands on my shoulders. “No problem! Just trying to welcome you guys to the neighborhood I think you guys will like it!” she said looking down at me. I just smiled and then looked at the ground. “Well, have a good night! Thanks again” my dad said trying to get inside already. “You too! Anytime” The woman said started to walk down the stairs. I looked up and saw Justin staring at me “Bye” he said waving at me. “Bye” I said back watching him go back to his house.
I looked up at my dad as he smirked at me. “What??” I asked. “Oh. Nothing” he said smirking at me again then going inside. “See..it won’t be so bad after all” he said giving me a wink. “Goodnight” I said sarcastically walking up to my room. “Goodnight sweetheart, sleep tight.”
Justin’s POV
“Well, they seem nice.” My mom said to me as we got back in the house. “Yeah” was all I said not really paying attention. “And that girl was cute” I quickly looked up at her smiling at me. “Yeah” was all I said again, trying not to show that she was right. She was cute, she was beautiful. I looked back at my mom as she raised her eyebrows at me. “goodniggggght” I said as I went to my room. I laid on the bed trying to sleep but couldn’t get that smile off my mind.
Jade’s POV
I woke up with the sun blaring in my face. “Ugggh” I moaned wanting to sleep more. It was hard considering I had a bunch of windows and no curtains. I didn’t have anything except a bed and an old wooden dresser in my room, so I didn’t even know what time it was. I sat up in bed staring out the window at the calm ocean. I didn’t care where we moved, I just wanted to live on a beach. The beach would be the only thing kept constant. It would keep a Cali girl sane.
I got out of bed and slowly made my way down stairs as I saw my dad unpacking stuff for the kitchen. “Morning Jade, you’re up already?!” He sounded shocked. “Not by choice, I can’t sleep without curtains” I said rubbing my eyes. “Oh yeah, well help me unpack and maybe you can find some.” He said motioning to all the boxes in the living room. I’ve never moved before so this was so weird, seeing all our things piled in brown boxes in the corner of the room.
I sighed and opened a box labeled “Jade’s room” as I opened it I saw a picture I had kept of my family. Back when everything was normal. I was only 7 but we all looked so happy. I quickly took the box and went back up to my room, letting out a tear as I set the box down. How could things get so fucked up? I thought to myself. I didn’t want my dad to see me upset, I don’t want him to get worried or think it’s his fault. He is all I have left anyways. I started to unpack the box and set the picture on my dresser. I hung more pictures and placed the remaining things round my room.
I went back downstairs to get my box of clothes. It was way too heavy. “Hey dad, can you pleeease carry this upstairs?” I asked nicely. “Carry what?” he asked from the kitchen. “My clothes.” I replied. He walked out to the living room and saw the huge box. He then looked at me smiling real big at him. He sighed, “Fine.” He said as he struggles getting it upstairs. He puts it down next to my bed and was about to leave when he saw the family picture. He looked back at me as we just stared at each other. “It’s what needed to happen” He said before leaving and shutting the door behind him. He was never too good at emotions.
I let out a deep breath and started unpacking my clothes and stopped as I saw the sun rising higher in the sky. I needed a break from unpacking, I thought. I changed into a black bikini and put on jean shorts and a loose white tank. Grabbed my sunglasses and went downstairs to get my shoes. I needed the beach, I thought. “I’m going to take a walk on the beach” I said putting on my shoes. “Ok, but don’t be gone too long, we still have to get these boxes unpacked” he said from the kitchen.
I sighed leaving out the back door. I walked out onto our walkway and started walking toward the beach. It was so nice feeling the warm sand between my toes. It made me feel at home. I continued walking as I got closer to the water. I just paced around squishing my toes in the wet sand.
Justin’s POV
I woke up to find my dog licking my face. “Oh hey Bella” I managed to say in my sleepy voice. It was so early. She kept licking my face “What do you want girl?” I said to my Golden Retriever. She moaned and I sat up slowly opening my eyes. “Fine, we can go for a walk” I said getting out of bed. I put on red swim trunks and a white tank top. I put my shoes on and went out to the backyard.
