deluded; shower thoughts

l u k e

A small sigh leaves my lips as I wave goodbye to my boss, a smile on my lips. My body makes its way outside to my truck, the soft breeze a nice change compared to the hot, almost stale air that takes up the music store.

It was currently a few minutes past five o'clock. My shift has just ended, and I was ready to get home so I could shower. Climbing in my truck, I put the keys in the ignition and start it. It takes me about ten minutes to get home, which I'm thankful for. As I pull in to the driveway, I can see that Blake's window is open, and I see Camila standing, her mouth moving. I assume she's talking to Blake.

My legs carry me up the driveway and to the front door. Unlocking the door, I make my way inside. I notice Cal and Ash sitting on the couch, a PlayStation controller in Ash's hands.

"Hey," I walk over to the kitchen and grab a bottle of water, before making my way back into the living room. I see Kingdom Hearts on the TV, immediately recognizing it as the second game.

"How was work?" Calum asks, looking up at me briefly before turning to focus on the game Ashton was playing.

I shrug, "Eh, it wasn't too bad. We were pretty slow today, so I can't complain."

Cal hums quietly.

With that, I turn and head for the stairs. "Alright, I'm going to go shower."

I was greeted with no response.

Once I get to the top of the stairs, I head for my room at the end of the hallway. Before I can make it to my room, the sound of a sniffle stops me. It's coming from Blake's room.

"Cam, I am scared. I am terrified of letting him in. What if he leaves me again?"

My heart stops. She's talking about me.

I press my ear against the door as quietly as possible, wanting to hear more of their conversation.

"You have every right to be scared." Cam says, "But, you shouldn't let fear run your life. Maybe he's finally come to his senses and realizing that he misses his best friend."

Fuck.

Before I can hear anything else, I move away from the door and make my way into my room. My heart beats in my chest faster than usual, a groan leaving my lips.

No, I'm not coming to my senses. I'm just trying to get her in bed with me so I can win a little bit of cash.

Walking into my bathroom, I turn the water on and give it a few minutes to warm up, the bathroom already filling with steam from the hot water.

I climb in the shower after disregarding my clothes, letting the water calm down my tensed muscles. My mind plays her words over and over again, a loop that seems to go on for eternity. Blake's words made her seem small and broken. I could hear the pain in her voice as she spoke.

What if he leaves me again?

What if he leaves me?

Leaves me again.

Her words echo in my head, causing me to tug at my hair.

"Okay, calm down, Luke. Everything's okay. It's okay." I mumble to myself, trying to push the words out of my head.

I finish my shower and climb out. Wrapping the towel around my hips loosely, I make my way into my room.

"What were you in there, muttering about?"

I jump slightly and look at my bed. I see Mikey sitting on the edge of it, his phone in his hands.

"Nothing," I shake my head and walk over to my dresser before pulling out a pair of boxers and a black pair of sweats. "What are you doing here?"

"Well, if you must know," He speaks, "I'm here to see how our little bet is coming."

"It's been a week, calm down." I walk back to my bathroom and change into my clothes before walking back out into my room.

"I'm just checking because you haven't been spending much time with her."

I look at Mike, a scoff pushing past my lips. "Well, what do you suggest I do? I've spent the last four years being a complete ass to her. I can't just go and be all flirty with her now, can I?"

I cross my arms over my chest, waiting for his next words.

"I guess you have a point." He hums, standing up from my bed. Michael walks over to my door, turning to look at me once he reaches it. "I'd come up with a plan quick if I were you." With that, he turns to leave.

"I'm working on it," I speak to myself quietly. "I just need a little bit more time."

I run my hairs through my hair, my eyes catching a glimpse of my old songwriting journal, and an idea pops into my head.

"Hm, that could work." I quickly grab it and find a pen on my desk before walking over to my bed.

Let's get this bet rolling.
