David Evans was 36 when Adolf Hitler came into power and the second world War started. He was drafted in octobre 1940 and saw many men fall some of them were his friends. When he returned home after the war ended, he returned to an empty that was full of ghosts. His first wife had died during a terrorist attack before they even had been able to start a family. He thought he was destined to be alone for the rest of his life but then he met Rose Moreaux and everything changed.
Rose had been born two years after the first world war ended and had grown up in a time were the people were still recovering. Her father had been a French officer and her mother had been a nurse working on the front lines. Both instilled in her a sense of duty to help people and since she couldn't stand violence, she chose the path of a nurse. Since the best nursing school was in Great Britain Rose left France and moved there. When David Granger returned to the British shores, he was badly injured and was delivered unconscious to the nearest hospital where he was treated. When he woke Rose was currently changing the bandages of her patient. When he saw Rose, she seemed like an angel to him. She was quite flustered as he had said those words aloud without noticing. To hide her flustered state, she slipped in her professional role as a nurse and asked if remembered what had happened and if he knew who and where he was. David told the blushing woman his name, that someone had caused an explosion of the train that transported him home and that he didn't know where he was only that it had to be a hospital before asking for her name. I'm your personal nurse Moreaux and I've been treating you ever since you were delivered to the St. Bartholomew's Hospital. You don't need to know more, answered the young woman trying to hide how much she was startled by the words of the land in the bed. When David Evans was released from the hospital, he still hadn't found out the first name of the pretty red-haired nurse despite trying very hard to get her to open up to him. What he didn't know was that Rose Moreaux feared that he was only was so interested in her because she had helped to save his life. She heard tales of men falling in love with their treating nurse and when they found out more about her, they would drop them like garbage. When the doctor saw the desolate expression on David Evans, he asked astonished: Why are you looking so sad? Shouldn't you be happy to be able to go home? The answer David's was subdued. How can be joyful when the first woman that I love since the dead of wife in 1926 won't even tell me her name? The only thing that I know is her last name Moreaux. Ah sweet Rosie! It doesn't surprise that you fell for her, but you should know that she wouldn't be allowed to tell you anything about her even if she wanted to, answered the doctor with a knowing smile. David asked confused: Why isn't she allowed to tell something about herself? It's protocol that the employees mustn't have a relationship with the patient beyond a professional one, explained the doctor. With a sudden inspiration David asked hopefully: Can't you tell me her name. No, I'm afraid that giving out information pertaining the staff is against our policy, apologized the doctor. I understand said he before moving towards the exit. Before he could leave the hospital, he was called back. Wait sir! When he turned around, he came face to face with another nurse around Miss Moreaux's age. She pressed a note in his hand saying this is her address. He looked at the woman with a stunned expression and asked: why are you doing this? With a firm voice she said: she could use a friend but if you ever hurt, I swear that I will break every bone in your body. With this threat the nurse turned around and walked away. David looked at the written down address and decided the best move was to first a letter. To himself he thought how fitting the name Rose was. When Rose got the first letter from her former patient, she burned it without reading it contents. After the fifth letter she decided that she had write one back to get him off her back.
Dear Mr Evans,
I don't know how you got this address, but I'd be grateful to you if you stopped writing me or else, I'll be forced to file a lawsuit against harassment.
