The first term of the school year taught Nesrin Leilani Evans quite a few things.
Firstly no amount of letters can replace a hug from Petunia after a horrible day or the proud smile of her father when she got something right. Even the unstoppable chattering of Lily and the high expectations of her mother were missing. She missed being able to complain to her sister about her day. She also desperately missed the warm embrace of her father. Nesrin never thought she would miss home so much it better said that she would Lily and mom at all, but she couldn't help it because deep down she loved both of them a lot.You can make enemies without even trying. Nesrin learned that on the first day. For an unexplainable reason the twin brothers of the head girl Molly Prewett seemed to hate her. Gideon and Fabian Prewett were pranksters and their main targets were Slytherins and Nesrin. She had to learn how to detect magic in food and drink so that she was protected from their pranks. No matter how often she asked why they came after her like that they always scoffed and said : If you can't guess then we won't tell you. The twins were not her only enemies. Narcissa Black and her fellow Slytherins targeted Nesrin also because of her status as the only Muggleborn Gryffindor and one of only five Muggleborns in their year. Soon Nesrin couldn't go to her classes on her own without having to fear to get hexed. Luckily for her not all Gryffindors were on the twins side and hated her. Frank Longbottom was one of the few people who stood up to them and was always kind to her. Nesrin Leilani Evans felt often helpless in the first few months and wondered what she had done to make so many people hate her so much. Sometime in November she resolved to learn how to defend herself even if that's the last she ever did. She was so tired of being a victim and even more tired of ending up in the infirmary. The last month before the holidays she spend all her time in the library or in empty classrooms teaching herself advanced defensive spells.
What surprised Nesrin Leilani Evans the most during the first term of school was how easy the subjects came to her. Never before had she done so well in school. She was always one of the first students to succeed in performing a spell and even the first in Transfiguration which was supposed to be the hardest class that used wands. By the end of term it was clear that Nesrin was the best when it came to Transfiguration. The class was fascinating and Nesrin couldn't wait to start with more complex things like human Transfiguration even thoug she knew that they had still a long way to go before they could even think about attempting something like that. The more time she spend at Hogwarts the more she grew to love magic and fear it at same time. Love because she slowly began to see the amazing things you could with it and Fear because of the terrible thing one could do to another person. A part of Nesrin hated herself for starting to believe that magic was a part of her, a part that she grew to love. She hated to break her promise to Petunia to always return to her the same. She slowly began to realise that she might not be able to keep that promise. A part of her would always be the girl that took care of her sisters when their parents were busy but for the first time in her life Nesrin Leilani Evans could focus on herself which was a whole new experience. Suddenly she didn't have to be constantly the responsible one which at first confused her and made her unsure of what to do. At first she tried to act like the big sister to Amelia and Enya but soon found out that they weren't pleased with her for trying to tell them what to do. Nesrin nearly lost their friendship because of that.
Friendships are never easy. That's something Nesrin Leilani Evans learned from a young age. At first it was because of her being responsible for two younger sisters. She had beer time for herself which meant she had to drag her sisters along if she wanted to meet up with people. Most of the girls in school weren't pleased with her for bringing her sisters and stopped inviting her for a meeting. Later when she showed first signs of magic she was soon labeled as a freak. Nesrin hoped that it would be easier without her sisters around and without being the odd one out. After Amelia and Enya got sorted into Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw she was afraid that they wouldn't want to be friends anymore. To her immense surprise and relief they walked to Gryffindor table the morning after the sorting. Enya grinned at Nesrin and asked: How was your first night in lion den. Not bad, not bad at all, responded Nesrin smiling, before asking concerned: Are you even allowed to be here?. Molly Prewett leaned over and reassured them by saying. Only on the first day, Halloween and the end of the school year do we have to sit at our house table. She then turned to Amelia and Enya. Good to see that people from other houses manage to stay friends. It's rare but not impossible. Amelia blushed and said shyly: We promised each other that no matter where we are sorted that we stay friends. As admirable that is you have to return to your house table now to receive your time tables. A stern voice Sound behind them. Both girls said a fast Yes Professor McGonagall before hurrying off towards their tables. Here Miss Evans before handing a piece of paper to the girl. Nesrin took it and looked down on it

Two weeks later
Why are you doing this? What have I done to you that you're no longer talking to me? Nesrin cried out terrible hurt and confused. Until you can accept that neither Amelia and I are your sisters and you can't order us around we have nothing more to say to you. responded Enya in a cold tone before leaving the classroom. Nesrin reared back in shock and thinks trembling. I'm not trying to order them around and I'm aware that they're not related to me. Its just that I'm so used to taking care of others that I can't help but try to take care of them too . I can't lose them because of this. The next day Nesrin Leilani Evans is resolved to apologize to Amelia and Enya for acting like an annoying older sister instead of a friend. After the last class of the day Nesrin writes a letter to both Amelia and Enya asking them to meet so she can explain. She waited two hours before admitting defeat but just as she was walking towards the door it opened and the awaited girls step into the room. Both seemed unsure if they did the right thing by coming and it's Enya who after a stifling silence began to speak. You wanted to explain so better start and it better be good. Once started its like Nesrin can't stop. She told them everything. How her parents were never home and how she practically raised her two sisters. She told them from the favoured sister and how she until recently felt like her parents couldn't care less about her. She also told from the weighing responsibility and how it influenced her ability to make friends. When she finished a shocked silence filled the room. If I could I would like to slap your parents until they realise what a brilliant person you are, snarled Amelia enraged on behalf of Nesrin Leilani. The surprise and tears in Nesrins eyes hurt her more then she thought it would. It seemed like she couldn't believe that someone found her treated unfairly. Out of an impulse she hugged Nesrin. Oh Lei, Amelia murmured softly. After a short hesitation Enya joined in a group hug. After Nesrins relevation about her home life the three girls are closer than ever before. Can you believe that it's already Christmas holiday. The time went by so fast, called Enya excitedly to the other two girls. Amelia laughed and said I know right. It feels like yesterday that we became besties. Nesrin was content just watching the others excitement and thought to herself how lucky she was to have them in her life. Oi Nessie a waving hand brought her out of her thoughts. She blinked confused and said, What were you saying Enya. I was wondering if you are going to write us the addressed girl said with an amused look in her eye. Of course I will, I'm going to miss you so bad. When they saw Nesrin almost crying they asked unison I thought you are looking forward to seeing your family. Nesrin nodded and answered hiccuping: I do but that doesn't mean I won't miss you like hell. You're the only ones where I don't have to be the responsible one. These words made Amelia and Enya sad and angry at once because they know how hard it is for their best friend to act so grown up all the time. After a tearful embrace they parted ways to join their families. Pet, I missed you so much, exclaimed Nesrin before pulling the other girl into a tight hug. Petunia gasped out: Not so tight, I can't breathe! Reculantly Nesrin pulled back and released her sister. Hey don't look so downtrodden. I missed you, too. reassured Petunia her favourite sister and best friend. The parents and Lily watched the scene with different feelings. Lily envied the close relationship between her older sisters and felt like often as the odd one out. The father was proud to witness Petunia being so close to Nesrin despite her feelings towards magic. The mother hoped that this open show of affection would continue and that her middle child wouldn't let her dislike for magic destroy the relationship towards her sister. Come now let's go, interrupted David the two girls. The journey home was spend in near silence only broken by Lily who like always couldn't stay silent for long. Nesrin who could feel the tension growing the more Lily asked about Hogwarts and magic in general tried to steer the conversation in a different direction by asking Lily what she had been up to since September. Finally they arrived at home and Nesrin could escape the tension in the car. She nearly ran up to her room where she fell onto her bed still fully clothed. To her immense relief noone followed her. Now alone with her thoughts she couldn't help but think that she would be rather be still in school then have to spend another minute with her family in tense silence. It was clear that the topic magic was tabu. At least it was when it came to Petunia. She shouldn't have been surprised as Petunia had only wanted her to go because she was afraid for herself and the whole family. Nesrin couldn't help but to feel hurt. It took her months to accept that magic was a part of her and now she was back at a place where at least one person couldn't accept it as fact. The days until Christmas after returning home she spend with Petunia trying to reconnect. During that time magic and Hogwarts weren't mentioned once. Nesrin stuck to safe topics like the newest music or that there were boys at her new school who pranked everyone and how she would love to make them pay. She would ask Petunia if she had made a friend and Petunia would tell her all about her new friend called Cynthia. When she wasn't with Petunia she would help her mother to prepare for Christmas like doing the shopping, baking biscuit or putting up decorations. On Christmas Morning Lily woke her up by jumping on her bed while shouting: Get up! Get up! Its present time. Nesrin buried her head into her pillow and groaned: All right! I'm up already! Not ten minutes later the whole Evans family was gathered in the living room. Petunia grumbled under her breath. When are you going to grow up Lily. Despite her being quiet one can see the tears in Lily's eyes. Nesrin who loved her baby sister despite everything hated to see Lily reduced to tears. There's no need to be so mean. Its Christmas and a day like this shouldn't be wasted. Lily smiled gratefully at her oldest sister. Now now please don't fight on a day like this. David Evans looked at his three daughters sternly. Yes Dad, chorused the three girls unison. David you are as always saving the day. Said an amused Rose Evans. Now I believe there are presents waiting for you. Rose looked happily as her children rip the presents open. A chorus of thanks follow. Nesrin pulled a blanked of a cage with an eagle owl in it. Mum Dad what how did you get him? The parents laughed at their daughters stunned expression. With a little help from Professor McGonagall. You always complained in your letters that you have to borrow owls from your friends so we chose to give you your own owl. How will you call him? answered Rose her daughter with a sly smile. Nesrin watched the owl for a moment before declaring that his name is Aquila. None of them see the grimace of Petunia. If only they had seen it maybe they could have prevented what was to come.
