In the months following the introduction in the magical world much changed in Nesrin's life. For the first time in her life she was truly happy. There weren't any thoughts of being a stranger in her own life. The reveal that magic existed meant that she wasn't a freak of nature like she had always believed ever since the first incident of what she now knew to be accidental magic. The knowledge that it was normal for a witch her age to have such outbursts lifted a stone from her chest. The relief of finally knowing that there were others like her made her blind to the growing resentment of Petunia. Despite having practically forced Nesrin to accept her place at Hogwarts a part of her had hoped that she would refuse. When she hadn't Petunia realised that the only reason why Lani had refused in the first place was that she didn't want to leave her behind. So, when she told her that she should go all barriers fell away and Lani could enjoy being a witch. Petunia's resentment was not only due to the discovery that Nesrin is a witch, but also because of their father who treated Nesrin now way better. Lani had told Petunia what took place after the return home.

Flashback: Nesrin ran upstairs and slammed the door to her room. Nesrin come down immediately! How many times do I have to tell you that we don't slam doors, her mother angrily called after her. Her father prevented Rose Evans from chasing her daughter and had followed up on her. After the knock, a hoarse voice had shouted back that she should be gone if it were her mother. It's daddy, David Evans replied. Come in, Nesrin called back. He went inside and saw his eldest daughter lying on the bed with a tear-stained face. He sat down next to her and asked worried: What's going on, darling? She stared at him angrily and said with a biting tone: As if you didn't know. David was shocked because he had no idea. I wouldn't ask if that's the case, Leilani, he was trying to calm his daughter down. Oh no, it's not that you never pretend that only one daughter matters. It's always Lily that, Lily this, but just for your information, you also have two other children, Nesrin accused her father. Then she added something more subdued. I was hoping that mom would pay attention to me for once, but no, as soon as she found out about magic, she jumped on the idea that Lily was also a witch. I shouldn't have been surprised as she has always favoured her just as you do it too. David opened and closed his mouth without knowing what to say. After a tense silence, he tried to explain his behaviour to Leilani. Have you ever wondered why I call you Leilani and your mother calls you Nesrin? Well, you should know that when your mother became pregnant with you, we had given up all hope of becoming parents. I was afraid of not being able to father children because many men in my family suffered from it. When your mother told me that she was expecting a child, I was overjoyed. It was as if all of my prayers to heaven had been answered. When I held you for the first time in my arms, I wanted to protect you from any harm. I was the one who first called you Leilani before Rose named you Nesrin. At least this is how it happened in my head but in truth we both called the names out at the same time. I don't know if I ever told you what Leilani means. At this Nesrin Leilani shook silently her head. Leilani means „Heavenly Child" or in other words „Child of Heaven" and that's what you are for me a gift from heaven. Maybe I was harder on you than I had to be, but I only wanted to enable to become anything you want to be and for that you need good grades. I'm sorry that I ever made you feel less important or loved than Lily. This whole speech made Nesrin even cry more. Among sobs she brought out: But you must hate me now. I saw your face when Professor McGonagall told us all about magic. David hesitated a short moment before confessing that yes he felt completely over whelmed and that he was raised in a religious way which meant that witches stood for everything evil, but that he could never hate her. Everything I have seen of magic until now are good things. As long as you use it for good, I won't have a problem with it, he reassured Leilani. After that they went downstairs where Nesrin apologized to her mother and explained how she felt about Lily always being in the centre of the attention. David would from now take Leilani on bicycle tours Sundays without her two sisters.
