I ran quickly into the diner my aunt owned, escaping the pouring rain outside. "You're late, Caroline," Agnes came out from the back room and smiled. "I know, sorry! The bus dropped me off a few blocks down, I had to run in that damn rain," I laughed while taking off my jacket and walking past her to my locker. "You could've called me. I would have had Hazel pick you up," Agnes helped me fix my hair. After a minute of messing with it I gave up and just put it in a low messy ponytail. "Speaking of which, where is Hazel?" I asked her, turning around to look at her while I kicked my vans off my feet. "He went to pick up more sprinkles. I'm running low on the rainbow ones, for some reason the donuts with them have been selling really well lately," She turned to face away and give me privacy while I changed out of my jeans and hoodie into my pale blue uniform.
When she gave me the job a few months ago, I told her I hated pink. Naturally, since we're practically the only ones who work here, she ordered my uniform in blue instead. "We could use the color diversity!" she said when I tried it on for the first time. After I got it completely zipped, she turned back to face me and watched as I slipped on the nude toned flats. Another thing that she had changed for me. We both agreed I would fall on my face everyday if I wore even the smallest heels. As I tied my apron around my waist and we continued making small talk, we heard the bell ding from the counter. "Oh, will you get that? I have to watch for Hazel out back" She asked me and smiled brightly when I nodded.
I walked out behind the counter while flipping open my notepad and fishing my pen out of my apron pocket. "Hi, what can I get you?" I asked and looked up at the customer for the first time. I smiled and felt myself blush a bit when he turned his attention to me. He was a very cute boy, and looked about my age. He had on what looked like a school uniform. He probably went to one of the private schools around here.
"Coffee. Black," He said expressionless. I was slightly taken aback. Usually teens who come in here will get a milkshake or hot chocolate, or even an iced coffee. "Uh, okay. That all?" I put my notepad away, not needing to write down something simple like that. He shook his head in response. Boy of few words, I see. "Alright, I'll have that out shortly," I gave him another quick smile before returning to the kitchen. It didn't take long before I had the hot coffee made fresh and poured into a cup. It felt weird not using any cream or sugar or something, like it was too easy. I took the cup out to the boy and set it in front of him with a small napkin. Just as I was about to tell him "Let me know if you need anything else," an older guy runs into the diner, clearly out of breath.
"Dammit, Five! You can't just zap off like that!" The guy says, walking up to the counter and taking a seat next to the cute boy, who I assume is "Five". The guy had on leather pants with a tye dye shirt, and a clear umbrella with pink trim. The guy looked at me and smiled. "Do you guys have weed infused donuts?" He asked. I blushed and smiled. "Uh, no, but we have cinnamon," I suggested. He laughed. "I was kidding. You look young, I figured you'd take the joke. But yes, cinnamon sounds fabulous," He said, looking back at the array of donut options. The boy rolled his eyes and took a drink of his coffee, setting it down with wide eyes.
"Oh no, is there something wrong with it? I can remake it, if you want," I asked him. Caught up in my nervousness, I didn't even notice that the donuts on display behind me were beginning to levitate. "No, actually, this is perfect," He looks up at me. The other guy who is examining the donuts begins to tap the boys arm. "Uh, Five," He says. The boy, Five, looks over at the guy in annoyance before seeing what he's looking at behind me. By the time I caught on that they both looked surprised at what was behind me, my nerves had calmed and when I turned around, the donuts were already back to normal. "What is it?" I asked, confused. When I turned back to them, they were staring at each other, seemingly having a conversation with just their eyes. After a moment they both turned back to me.
"I'm Klaus," The older guy said to me, holding out his hand for me to shake, which I did. "I'm Five, and before you ask, yes that's my real name," The boy said. I smiled at both of them. "Nice to meet you both. I'm Caroline," I said. "Cool, cool. Well, nice to meet you. Five, I'm gonna wait outside," Klaus smiled at me and gave Five a look before grabbing his umbrella and exiting the diner. "Sorry for my brothers weird behavior. He's high," Five says as if it's an everyday occurrence. I laughed, then realized he was serious. Five put a few dollars on the table and stood up. "Have a good night," I smiled, and he returned it with a smaller one before leaving as well.
TIME SKIP TO LIKE 10PM OR SOMETHING
At the end of my 4 hour shift, I said goodbye to Aunt Agnes and Hazel before shutting my locker and leaving the back room. I made sure my keys were in my jeans pocket before I walked out of the diner. I decided to just walk home since it was no longer raining. When I was walking past an alley, I heard a cough and glanced over. I saw a familiar outline of a person smoking and squinted in the dark. I took a few steps into the alleyway, and the person looked up at the sound of me. "Klaus?" I said. He smiled and opened his mouth to say something, before an arm wrapped around my neck and a hand smashed a cloth over my mouth and nose.
I screamed into the cloth and tried to get out of the persons grip, but they were too strong. Suddenly I felt really tired and dizzy. The last thing I saw and heard was Klaus looking at my attacker and going "Really?"
A/N: Okay I'm gonna be honest - I wheezed when I imagined Caroline literally passing out and Klaus is standing there like "What the fuck, man?" BAHAHA.
This was kinda bad, yikerdoodles.
