This was the first time I've ever felt real fear running deep within me.

I wasn't afraid when those red deadly shoes came to life and nearly killed Lily.

I wasn't afraid when I was out hunting for that lost kid and the soldier toy with Yumi and Paris.

I wasn't afraid when I was fighting the mirror monster.

I wasn't afraid when I was exploring Kay's house.

I wasn't afraid.

Until now.

Unconsciously, I must've felt that nothing could ever happen to Paris, nothing could hurt him at all. Hell, I've kicked his head off once and he was still walking around like normal. So I never got the chance to actually worry for him.

Seeing him now, so vulnerable, so close to breaking, it really hit me hard. I was scared he was going to actually die.

"(Y/N), dear, you're crushing me," Paris wheezed and that was when I realized I was hugging him a bit too tight. I mumbled an apology and gently pushed him off me, letting him sit up straight. It was weird, seeing him hunched and tilted as he drawled, "I...don't know what happened. Everything just became...so heavy. It's like this body isn't even mine. I can hardly keep myself from falling apart and judging by your expression, it shows. Unfortunate, but it doesn't matter--"

"What do you mean it doesn't matter?! You're...broken, what if we can't fix this, what if you..." I swallowed. I was shaking. He stared at me with his dead crimson eyes, silent for a moment.

"(Y/N), I can assure you, I'll be fine. I won't be turning into scrap wood anytime soon."

"Oh thank goodness," Yumi sniffed, clutching her dress tightly. "I had thought you died too."

I turned to Yumi, not at all convinced by what Paris had said, but if we figured out the source of the problem, perhaps we could fix it right now. "What did you see?"

"I...saw it...come out of the camera, it...bit right into you and," Yumi took a deep breath, tears brimming, "at least, that's what I thought it did, and then...I could barely...sense you. Your energy suddenly just faded so much."

Paris made an attempt to stand up, but I pushed him back down right before he could fall over again. Lily clicked her tongue, looking down at Paris with a tiny bit of concern, "We should leave, busting that camera didn't seem to do a lot, so maybe--"

Oh right, the camera, maybe breaking it open could reveal--

It wasn't broken.

I gasped, and Yumi did too. Now everyone was staring at the perfectly unscratched piece of junk.

"What the fu--" I muttered and Yumi blinked in realization, cutting in.

"It used your energy. It said it's always hungry and it has been feeding. I think it fed off of your energy and pulled itself back together," Yumi gaped at the camera. "It's using the camera to stay here, like a body. It feeds off people but it's never enough."

"That's what happened to Kay's mom didn't it," I said, turning my head to Lily. "This...thing kept feeding off of her until she...and if nothing is done, then Kay will..."

"Wait, when Paris cut up that camera, what if--" Lily jolted when her phone began to ring and she picked up. Iris' voice was quivering on the other end, frantically saying Kay had just collapsed and if she should call an ambulance or something.

"Let's just go home, leave it alone, maybe if we stay away from it long enough, Paris and Kay can regain their energy, and we can come back and maybe--" I didn't know what I was saying and, frankly, I didn't want to stop. I just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible so everything could just go back to normal.

I shouldn't have suggested to do something about the camera, I should've kept my clammy mouth shut. But nooo, stupid (Y/N) had to be all smart mouthed and shit and decided, Hey let's go visit the energy absorbing camera that could potentially kill you!

"Or more likely, Kay'll just die," the way Paris had put it, he nearly said 'we', like he was worried he'd die too. I was having none of that today, or tomorrow, or next week on a Tuesday night, or ever.

My face scrunched up in exasperation, frowning deeply as I yelled back, "Don't say that, we did warn you though, and you went ahead and sliced it anyways! You should've thought--"

"Oh like you're not reckless, huh? May I remind you that this was your idea? I didn't want to do this in the first place, but if we hadn't, that thing would've still been feeding off of Kay," Paris growled back, his metallic jaw creaking as he did.

"Well, duh! It's always been like this, I was the reckless one and you're the level headed one, you're not suppose to be doing stupid things!"

"Now you're blaming me for something that doesn't even concern you?"

"Of course it concerns me, you selfish jerk--"

Paris leaned forward, almost bumping his head against mine. Lily and Yumi glanced between us worryingly as he barked back, "Me? Selfish? You rude prick, I was doing this for you. I was doing all of this for you and Yumi and the twins. All you humans are the same, you just leave your messes for me to clean up and when it isn't done right, you get all whiney about it. I can't believe I convinced myself I had fallen in love with you."

My jaw snapped shut with a click, making it sore. But nothing could beat the pain I felt when he said that, "Why don't you just shut up for once?!"

"Is that an order, Ivan?!" He sneered, and I felt my whole body froze up. He paused, leaning back against the wall as he ran a hand through his hair. "I'm..."

Okay, it was a mistake, that's all. He didn't mean that, I just had to suck it up and deal with it. "Who's Ivan? Are you cheating on me?" Perfect.

"I cannot believe you." Paris groaned, covering his face, semi relieved that I wasn't all too hurt from his words. He glanced back up and saw Yumi crawling quietly towards the camera, her hand hovering over it. "Yumi! Don't--"

Lily and I both turned, too late to react when Yumi finally placed her hand on the camera.
