"A toy soldier?" Lily asked. "And it just straight up kidnapped a kid?"

I lied upside down on the couch as my legs dangled from the back of the couch. I continuously kicked them while the others talked about something that didn't interest me. I zoned out the moment they started talking about the purpose of the toy soldier that had kidnapped the kid.

It was something I couldn't help, things that bore me would immediately be dismissed and I'll stop paying attention. Besides, they were gonna talk about the red shoes incident and that was something I'd rather forget.

I started reaching at my neck unconsciously, the feeling of Lily's legs strangling me still lingered in my mind. The feeling of them pressed against my neck, forcing the air to stop coming in and out. I didn't like it. Not one bit.

I was jolted out of my thoughts when both Paris and Lily said "What?" in unison.

I adjusted my head so I could see Yumi, she looked nervous, like always, she was still tugging on that beaded necklace of hers. She carried that everywhere at this point, I couldn't bear the thought of her losing it.

"I-If there were any ghosts around..." Yumi started. "One of them might have seen it. If one did...I...um...could try to talk to it."

The room grew silent.

"Woah that's wicked." I grinned, realizing the blood was starting to get into my head. I fell over so I was lying sideways now, my legs were resting on the armrest of the couch.

Lily shot me a look, then turned back to Yumi. "Yumi, are you pulling my leg?"

"You shouldn't, Lily's legs are gonna hurt a lot if you do." I joked. Paris groaned in frustration.

"Would you please take this seriously?" Paris barked, I only smiled back at him.

"Honey, please, I never take things seriously." I chimed in response.

He looked like he wanted to strangle me. I'd like to see him try.

"Why must she be here?" Paris turned to Lily. "She's such a nuisance. She's barely helping at all, in fact!"

Ok, rude. That really hurt my feelings. Not really. But I do help sometimes, I help ease the mood. Not all of us can be like you, grumpy little fu-

"Hey, she's my friend. Plus, she can be useful." Lily argued back.

"In what way?" Paris glared.

"First off, there is no way I'm letting Yumi go ghost hunting with you. Pinocchio." Lily's eyes narrowed at him. "So that you can track down a kidnapping toy soldier who tortures kids."

"I think it'd be much safer if you brought (Y/N) along." Lily nodded her head at me.

I was trying to tie my shoelaces in the most complicated way possible, so they'd stop coming loose. "Yeah! Wait- That's me."

"Exactly, you kinda saved my life. Both of you. So if you both went together with Yumi, it would be less dangerous since there would be two pair of eyes on her." Lily crossed her arms, then nodded at Yumi. "And both of you know how to fight."

"There wouldn't be a difference if she came along." Paris gritted his teeth. "I can handle Yumi and this mission well on my own."

"Yo, the more the merrier." I said, my fingers now tangled in the shoe laces. "I won't even drag you down, so why the anger?"

"If she doesn't go, Yumi isn't going either. And I'm sure, in the meantime, the boy would do just swell." Lily huffed, her tone laced with sarcasm at the last part.

Paris groaned even more and rubbed his face, which made his skin look really smooth for some reason.

"Paris...please." Yumi looked up at him with her adorable eyes. God I'm glad I'm not him right now. Who could resist those cute round ruby eyes?

"Fine." Paris said reluctantly. Lily sighed in relief and got up from the couch.

"Ok, I'll go to the bathroom now." She left the room, leaving the three of us alone.

"Shit, I need help." I mumbled, tugging on my shoelaces. My fingers entangled in them. "Curse my stupidity!"

"You got that right." Paris sighed and sat down on the couch, right next to my head.

Yumi squirmed in her seat and got up. "I-I'm gonna go get a glass of water." Before waiting for an answer, she left too.

Now it was just me and the pretty little puppet.

"You're enjoying this." I finally said. "You're enjoying my misery in the clutches of my evil shoelaces."

Paris tried to hide his smile, but failed since I spotted it right away. "I do admit, it is amusing to see that the person who fought those red shoes can manage to get stuck by those pathetic shoelaces. It is ironic."

"Laugh all you want, puppet, meanwhile I'll slowly bide my time and escape. Then I'll come for you." I said in a low voice, my usual smile faded away. I almost laughed at his panicked or confused reaction, he nearly took me seriously.

"I wonder what the see in you." Paris took ahold of my head gently, I didn't do anything as he lifted my face so he could adjust me onto his lap.

I stared straight up at his face, he stared back straight down at mine.

"You're annoying, immature, rough and so very stupid." Paris muttered under his breath, even though he didn't have a breath, he slowly reached down to my hands where they were tangled in my shoelaces.

"That's just part of my charm I guess." I responded breathlessly. I shivered slightly as his cold hands made contact with mine and started to free me from the mess I've made.

Paris chuckled slightly. "You're many things, but charming is not one of them."

"What? Afraid I'd take your spotlight as the better one?" I smirked, one of my hands now out of the shoelace trap.

"Heavens no. I don't even care about how you all think of me." Paris shook his head, though his voice tightened a bit. I could tell he was most likely lying, but I do give him credit for keeping his cool.

Both my hands were free now.

I reached up and grabbed his face, he didn't recoil as expected. Instead he continued staring at me.

He learnt from his previous experience. Interesting.

"I hate you. You're terribly rude. That's why we can never be friends." I said in a blank tone, my hand slid down his cheeks. They were indeed as smooth as he made them seem. But very cold too.

"Something we can finally agree on." Paris grabbed my hand and kept it there on his cheek.

I like this chapter, I like how it's different from the original. I like how I made the protagonist act like. I like how I wrote this. I hope you guys aren't too bothered by how different things are.
