Chapter 4
Li Lian
Princess Le-anneLi Lian was in that isolated room again, safe in her beloved's warm hands. Mistress Ki stood with a victorious smile over her, proud that she had found her slave.
However, Yuwen Hong her beloved, Luo Meng at that time, was drugged by the poisoned cloth Mistress Ki put over him.
"The stupid game is over, let's go home." The evil woman dragged her out of bed by seizing her right arm. "Wait and see how I am going to make you my lunch if you slept with that punny."
"If I slept with him, I might as well marry him." Yuwen Hong was not like that, he respected her and did not do anything to her. On top of that he was still recovering from a wound to entertain such behavior.
"In your dreams." Mistress Ki scorned. The attendants took Li Lian from Mistress Ki, standing at her sides that she wouldn't escape. Looking over at her mistress, she could tell that Mistress Ki had horrible plans towards Yuwen Hong, so she told her, "We didn't do anything. He is some injured poor soul I was trying my medical skills on."
That was how Yuwen Hong was left alone. Back at where they stayed and trained her, she was angry to be back. She cried at night for being captured, missed her beloved and wondered whether he searched for her.
Not knowing that years later they would meet again, both different people. He was the emperor and she, a spy on a mission. Tears consumed Li Lian's eyes as flashbacks overtook her mind.
The time they met in the storage and Yuwen Hong stole her pendant. Meeting in the forest by the river and almost kissing. When he had her sent to the punishment bureau. The encounter at the Military Grounds camp and almost killing her. Him and her in the jail where she gave him a love bite. Him taking care of her in YiYuan. The washing room in YiYuan where they flirted. Her slapping him at night and putting inflammatory ointment on his cheeks. Trying to seduce him. Their cute letters, him choosing to move on which hurt her ego. Then the fateful night. The worst of them all.
Her body shook as she closed her mouth with the back of her hand to stifle her crying. So many memories. She missed him.
"Your Highness?" General Feng stood over her.
"General Feng. How did you get in here?" She rose from her bed.
"I knocked and there was no answer. Are you alright?"
She wiped her cheeks and made a throaty sound, swallowing her tears. "I am better." Compared to the first week she was caught up in misery and loss that she could do nothing else. She was better.
He sat down on her mattress and she reached for the bed stand, switching on the lamp.
"Has Princess Yang Liu been kind to you?"
"Princess who?"
He shrugged, "Prince Kuan Hui's new title. It was bestowed on that night the emperor..."
He was bestowing a title on that night. Then how did he get to the dungeon? "What was he doing at the dungeons then?"
General Feng spoke with a tone of adoration. "His Majesty liked to be where trouble is at, so when he heard about the break in. He dropped everything and went there."
Those words brought up a memory. 'You are like me. Trouble does not scare you. It attracts you,' Yuwen Hong once said to her. Of course, he would run to the dungeons.
They already spoke of him as if he was dead by using past tense completely. "Is he dead...?"
General Feng let out a heavy breath. "No. He is fighting with everything he has got. A few royal physicians think he will make it. But many others..." He shook his head. "Don't tell this to Princess Yang Liu."
