Chapter 71

Bai Yang Liu
Royal Princess Bai
Nevoria

General Feng never introduced Yang Liu to his family. He said they were not part of his life but she felt she wasn't filial if she didn't at least visit his mother, even though she was a senile woman living in the outskirts of the city.

"Your Highness, are you sure My Lord granted you permission to come and visit here?" The mistress of the pavilion was uncomfortable. "Nobody ever visits here, even My Lord only comes once in a long time."

"Who are you to question Her Highness?" Yang Liu's court lady snapped.

"Let it be, court lady. She is just surprised by my visit, that is all."

The pavilion was intricate-looking, a brown wooden building with a vast garden that circled its perimeters. General Feng after all, used all his earnings to build it in honor of his mother, who lost her mind since the day she gave birth to him. Unfortunately, due to the cruelty of life, he hadn't gotten the opportunity to converse with his own mother in her sane mind.

Her and General were one of the same person. They had living mothers without functional minds, her mother being on the lead.

"I am his betrothed. Of course, he granted me permission to meet my mother-in-law." Yang Liu passed through the gate and saw a woman sitting in the frontier garden with hands wrapped around herself, but she laughed when she saw them and rushed over.

"King Tobba, you have come, you have come for your son, haven't you? Your son is inside, please take him, but my body you shall not take."

The woman was dressed in fine blue silk and put together in appearance. They well took care of her.

"Who is it? Nong Nong, why are there unpermitted visitors? Have them leave now!" An elderly man rushed to them coming from where he had been cultivating the huge garden, a distance away.

"It is King Tobba!" General Feng's mother shouted to him. "King Tobba!"

"Have them leave now!" The angry man's voice echoed in Yang Liu's mind, but it was intruded by the louder echo of the woman. "King Tobba wants his son!"

Yang Liu muffled her mouth to stop crying. That incident had taken place the previous day and still her heart was breaking. She finally understood why her brother was skeptical of General Feng. Did he also suspect what she now suspected, that General Feng was the son of King Tobba or it was just the unyielding instinct that drove him?

Yang Liu felt awfully betrayed, a fool that was a laughing stock. Firstly, she hid Li Lian in her quarters, the person who stabbed her brother, and now she had fallen for the son of her father's murderer.

Talking to her mother did not help, either. Yang Liu still had the vivid image of her selfish mother this morning, scrutinising and warning her that she would regret the decision she was about to take. Her mother had no say in her life based on the many horrendous things she had done as a mother but it still made her question whether she should think again on what she was about to do.

Yang Liu tried to stop pacing around her welcoming room, although she could not help it. She was too anxious.

"Your Highness, General Feng seeks your audience." Her court lady announced from outside.

"Let him in. I am expecting him."

There were some footsteps outside before the curtain at the entrance was pushed aside. General Feng entered, making her stomach tingle and her doubts waver that she had to reign them in.
