He stopped, staring at you with eyes mixed with confusion and happiness. You purses your lips, hiding the small smile. The Australian slowly walked towards you, the smile blossoming into a familiar grin you knew from years ago.

"(Y/N)? Is that your name?" He asked, the accent brought you back memories, flashing the visions whenever you blinked. And every time you always saw the grin, it made you smile.

...
You held your head on your fists, leaning on them as the teacher wrote down what you called 'junk' on the board, the ear-killing screeches of the chalk making even the inattentive students cringe.

Next to you was Max, the Australian kid who was obnoxious, but you had never really talked to him. He turned to you, his big green eyes so wide you thought his face would split. But they were energetic, flickering and observing his surroundings in a hurried manner. He turned to you, violently shaking your shoulders.

Your tired eyes looked at his, an annoyed look slightly scared him, but your face softened, and you sighed going back to your state of sleepiness.

"You have to stay up, I don't want you to get into trouble again!" He whispered, shaking you again.

"Miss Marvey is nice enough to let me sleep, I think."

"Nuh-uh!"

"Uh-huh!"

"n u h - u h..." you groaned and was about to say something back, but you noticed Max's eyes were fixated to the board, and then you glanced at the art teacher. She was standing there arms folded, blinking and tailoring her head at you while the whole class stared at you. You retreated back to facing the board, blushing as the class snickered.

"Thank you, but next time," her words were sweet but artificial-like, it bothered you, "you have to put a stick in your jars, okay? One more chance guys."

Miss Marvey smiled at you kindly, and continued, "so does anyone know about Leonardo Da Vinci!"

"I do! I do!" A couple classmates yelled, jumping up and down from their seats.

"Raise your hands, only silent mouths but raised hands!" Miss Marvey explained and tight-lipped smile kept on her face.

You groaned, once again Max waking you from your daydreaming.
...

With a handshake, you responded, "Yeah, it is," this time, your eyes flickered everywhere to his green eyes, still packed with an energy and a mischievous look that challenged you, "it's me, you're first grade crush." You laughed.

He flashed another grin that made those memories flash through your very eyes, and he embraced you, pulling you into a tight hug, but he was warm. He pulled away, chuckling.

"We finally meet again!"

"Boy, you look amazing, you've been hitting the gym?" You joked as he flexed.

"And you," he smiled, "look so different—not in a bad way though! Or in a weird way!" You laughed.

...
Sweat dropped down your face, red hot. You felt your skin tingle in the sun as your muscles ached. The ball sped across the field, and you crouched down to kick it when it was time. With a a graceful swing of your leg, you passed it to Max, and he cheered kicking it towards the net.

"GOALLLL!" You cheered, running up to him expecting a high-five, but he hugged you. You laughed as you saw the parents on the sidelines cheer.

"Good job, Max, (Y/N)," your coach gave both of you fist bumps, "we won our first intramural soccer game!"

Those green eyes threatened you to pull you into a rib-crush hug again, but you just smiled at him.
...

"I missed you, Max..." tears welled up in your eyes, but you kept that smile on your face.

"Man, can't believe it, what even happened in college?" He let his head drop, hiding his watery orbs. You stifled the cries and wrapped your arms around him, as he hung his head on your shoulder.

"I am so, so sorry."

"I'm, sorry, too. For everything."

...
"Do you have any time for me?" Max barely whispered, his head hung low.

You held yours high, but your throat had a lump in it, but you gulped.

"You—you are being selfish." You wiped your eyes, your breaths uneven as he slowly looked up with a glare. Green embers that stabbed you, a pain striking your chest, but you held your head high, "do you understand that I have responsibilities, Max? Do you understand that I have other friends too? It's hard, right now."

Every word seethed with a burning anger that he would never forget. Those words, were engraved into his mind.

"It's been two years, and I was so happy—(Y/N)— that today I could be with you, but no," he laughed, wiping his eyes as you faced him, "you canceled everything, it's been two years, two fucking years!"

You felt your chest hurt, and your eyes welled up with tears. But you, you held your head high, "I don't know you."

"Who are you? Please, I am sorry." He shouldn't be apologizing.

"I said, I don't know you, leave..."

All the way home, he weeped.

...
"Max, you have nothing to apologize for, I was so dumb." You smiled the first-grade memories replaying in front of you as he hugged you. You let go, wiping the tears.

His eyes were bright, "(Y/N)," he handed you a tissue from a pack he had in his pocket, "let's catch up with each other, is that fine?"

"Yes! Of course, Max." You two continued to walk down the headquarters.

"But seriously, you gotta tell me everything! What's been goin' on, love." Green embers widened, and that smirk, oh, that smirk.
