The Outer Banks, Paradise on Earth. It's the sort of place where you either have two jobs or two houses.
Two tribes, one island.
First, you have Figure Eight, the rich side of the Island. Home of the Kooks. Then you have the south side of the cut. Home of the working class who make living busing tables, washing yachts, and running charters. The natural habitat of the Pogues.
Pogues, poguies, the throwaway fish. The lowest member of the food chain. The downside to Poque life is you're ignored and neglected but the upside of Poque life? You're ignored and neglected, which means we do whatever we want, whenever we want.
Who are the Pogues you might ask? Time to meet them.
First up is Pope. He's the brains of every operation and a finalist for the Lucas T. Vanderhorst Merit Scholarship meaning that he was one of the smartest people around. He's a little bit of a weirdo. His father is this legendary character, Heyward. Anything you wanted on the island, Heyward could get it for you. No one was sure what Heyward thought about his oddball son, but it didn't matter. He was a Poque.
Next, you have Kiara, or Kie, as everyone liked to call her. When she's not saving turtles or listening to Marley, or getting a dolphin tattoo, she hangs with the Pogues. Kie is kind of a rich kid, actually. Foot in both worlds. Her family owns the Wreck, a lovely Outer Banks restaurant that is a total cash cow with the tourists. No one is super sure how her parents feel about the Pogues but she likes to hang out with them anyways.
Then you have John B. He was the de facto "leader" of the group and always coming up with new adventures. He had just lost his dad recently and was struggling to keep DCS off his back but he was managing. His legal guardian is his Uncle T but the last John B heard was that he was in Mississippi. John B's house is called the Chateau and it's basically the home base for the Pogues.
Can't forget about JJ. He's about local as you can get; lastest in a long line of fishing, drinking, smuggling, vendetta-holding salt-lifers who made their living off the water. The best surfer in the group but no one tells him that, it would definitely go to his head. He's a mild kleptomaniac and a future tax cheat. JJ is a blonde shaggy-haired boy from the wrong side of the tracks that couldn't help himself but find a certain someone entrancing in almost every single way.
Lastly, Kallie, or as all the Pogues like to call her Kal. She was always referred to as an honorary Poque because she technically is Kook. She wasn't always hanging with the Pogies though, at some point, she was full kook but a certain someone helped drag her to the 'dark side'. Her parents are filthy rich and own a huge house on the north side of the island. However, Kal's parents are flaky; they would be gone for weeks at a time, traveling and leaving her home alone. That has to have some type of effect on a 16-year-old kid but she keeps it well hidden. And on the occasion when they were in town, it totally sucked. One thing to know was that the Pogues had a few sacred rules:
One: No secrets among Pogues
Two: No Poque on Poque mackingThree: Pogues don't lie to Pogues
The five of them knew no limits and more often than not found themselves too close to the sun. But that was the point of it all; fly so close without catching fire. Well, fire lights fast especially when hunting for treasure but as everyone knows, hunting for treasure isn't as straightforward as it seems.
