"Miss Kallie, you're not dressed." Mrs. Evans spoke as she entered Kal's room.
As soon as her parents got arrived, they called all the staff back in because god forbid not having someone to do all the cooking and cleaning for the Davis family. The staff wasn't too mad about it though because they got a good four days off to be with their families.
"No, I'm not going." Kal shook her head as she turned away from Mrs. Evans. All Kal wanted to do was pull the covers up over her head and shut her eyes till all her problems just magically disappeared.
"But Miss Kallie, you know how upset Mrs. Cassandra will get if you don't go." Mrs. Evans said as she sat down next to Kal on her bed. "I think it is best if you get ready and go."
"They want me to go with Rafe," Kal complained as she sat up.
"I remember a time when you were overjoyed to go to Midsummers with Rafe Cameron." Mrs. Evans placed a loving hand on her shoulder.
"Things are different now, he's different." Kal sighed as she looked down.
"You're different too." Mrs. Evans smiled, bringing Kal's attention back up to her. "I know that your parents don't tell you this often or ever but I want you to know how proud I am of the wonderful young lady you are becoming."
"Thank you Mrs. Evans." Kal gave her a sad smile. For as long as she remembered, Mrs. Evans was there. She practically raised Kal more than her own mother did.
"Kallie Davis!" Her mother exclaimed as she walked into the bedroom. "Why are you not getting ready?"
"I'm not going." Kal shook her head, her mood instantly turning sour at the presence of her mother.
"Mrs. Cassandra, I'm going to excuse myself." Mrs. Evans spoke up, she quietly left the room, leaving Kal all alone with her mother. Obviously, Mrs. Evan did not want to be caught in the middle of a Davis family standoff.
"Brock!" Cassandra yelled for her husband. "Our daughter claims she not going to Midsummers." She explained once Kal's father entered the room.
"The hell you aren't." Her father chuckled as if it was funny.
"Sweetie, you've been talking about Midsummers since last year." Cassandra sighed, not wanting to deal with her daughter's antics.
"Kallie, you have a date." Brock reminded her.
"Trust, I remember you arranging for me to go with my ex-boyfriend." Kal rolled her eyes. "I'm not going."
"You and Rafe love each other." Cassandra tried to convince her.
"I don't love him, mom!" Kal suddenly snapped. "I never did."
"This is about the south side boy isn't it?" Her father pinched the bridge of his nose, obviously starting to get tired of his daughter and her attitude.
"I told you what would happen if you hung around south side trash, didn't I?" Cassandra raised her eyebrows.
"Don't call him that." Kal shook her head as she sent her mother a glare.
"The boy had been arrested and yet you still defend him." Brock sighed. "You barely know him."
"That boy and my southside friends have been more of a family to me that you two ever were!"
"Don't say that." Her father scolded her sternly.
"You are so ungrateful for everything that we have given you." Cassandra scoffed as she eyed her daughter. "We have given you, a beautiful house to live in, an amazing education, a wonderful life where you don't have to worry about where your next meal is coming from..."
