kokichi slid through the gallery window skilfully, his detective following him less skilfully.

"stop right there, phantom thief!" shuichi yelled after kokichi, who was by now on the rooftop with another artwork in hand. the supreme leader smirked.

"who's going to stop me, detective? because from what it seems like, i've always been one step ahead of you." kokichi, sat on a satellite dish, looked down at shuichi. shuichi looked into the shorter male's eyes before turning away, making kokichi's smirk gradually grow wider.

"it's not that you're one step ahead of me. i just like talking to you, thief." shuichi scratched his blushing cheeks while he felt sweat drip down his temple. this caught kokichi slightly off guard (which shuichi noticed) before he quickly gathered himself together and carried on his poisonously smug facade.

"oh really? how nice of you, detective. you must really like me, huh?" he smirked once more. kokichi held Bridge in the rain, after Hiroshige close to his chest as shuichi sighed.

"you're very odd, yet interesting. it feels wrong to just leave you alone and i don't think i'd earn much pleasure arresting you either. so i've left it in the middle of the two, just talking to you for a few minutes." the detective was distracted, giving kokichi the perfect time to flee. he used his flexibility to swing himself over the satellite dish. despite his genuine curiosity to what shuichi had to say, kokichi had no other choice. well, no other choice where he would get to have a great escape. it was always the best part.

once kokichi was in midair, he swiftly directed himself over the van, which had a mattress taped onto the roof. an amateur setup, but a pro escape. like always.

"farewell, my detective!" kokichi readjusted his mask to make sure it wasn't showing his face as shuichi leaned over the rooftop.

"farewell, my phantom thief!" the detective shouted, smiling slightly. little did he know, so was the supreme leader.

the van's engines roared through the empty roads as police sirens approached, and the smiling detective stared into the cloudy night sky.

he looked on in hope, hope to find out who this phantom thief was soon. he wished upon every little jewel in the sky. but it felt like soon those jewels wouldn't be there anymore, but taken away by this thief. and every jewel that ran out, every opportunity did too.

every opportunity to reveal the one behind the mask. the one behind it all.

shuichi sighed yet another tired sigh, resting his head in the palm of his hand.

"i think i know what could cheer me up..." shuichi chuckled softly. he began walking to his car, waving to the police.

why they even bothered to come was always a mystery to shuichi. but it was the same for him, why did he even bother to come? he could always just check for evidence on the morning after. he liked to think of it as sort of a friendship; the strong bond of two people who happen to see each other every now and again. but it felt foolish to call the thief he was chasing his friend.

it didn't matter anyways, it was always just another pile of work to do the next day and 5 minutes of tensioned conversion.

shuichi entered the coffee shop, his posture far from fixed.

"woah, what happened to you? looks like you just got hit by a car!" rantaro chuckled. shuichi smiled briefly before returning to his neutral frown.

"just feel a bit tired of my routine in work..." he vented to the barista, not knowing that the phantom thief was listening in with worry. did he hate him?

"why, is it just plain boring?" rantaro asked, blending the coffee beans together for the detective's drink. shuichi stares at his hands.

"no, i like what i do and everything it's just i feel like i'm running out of time. time to catch whoever is behind the mask, y'know? actually, i-i don't know, i just feel like i can't reveal who they are because we've built up trust, and i'm not getting rid of that. even for work. i just feel like this isn't going to last forever and one day i'll have to do it. i'll have to find out who they are."

kokichi blushed at what shuichi had said. but then the realisation hit. time was running out, wasn't it? how long did they have left until his boss went after kokichi instead?

"woah, that sounds like you've got a lot of weight to carry on your shoulders. if i was you, make time for yourself. like go watch a movie, go to the spa, anything really. you could even do it with a certain you know who~" rantaro winked as he nudged shuichi's shoulder. he pointed at kokichi, who was currently having a mental breakdown silently. shuichi's face heated up.

"y-yeah...i mean, maybe, i-if he wants to..." shuichi averted eye contact with rantaro. the barista handed shuichi's drink to kokichi.

should he ask kokichi to go to the movies with him? it seems like a good idea...but what if kokichi rejects him? maybe he could throw kfc into the mix, surely he'll say yes then. but isn't that bribing? it felt wrong to do that. but it's just harmless kfc...well, for him and kokichi. it was not as harmless for kfc to build their company. so many chickens, killed for our survival...

"hey, saihara! your drink is ready!" kokichi shouted. snapping out of his thoughts, shuichi went to grab his drink.

"s-so, uhm, k-kokichi..." shuichi gulped, scratching the back of his neck. kokichi nodded for shuichi to continue.

"w-would you like to go to the uh, m-movies with me?" he asked. quickly, shuichi added to his question.

"b-but it's okay if you don't want to! i-i get it, you have work and i do too, we might not have the same days off, it's just really a pain to plan and-" shuichi was cut off by the sudden warmth on his cheek. kokichi pulled away, smirking.

"its a date, saihara. text me the details!~" shuichi rubbed the spot on his cheek that kokichi had kissed, his jaw wide open and a blushing mess, he had a slight glimmer in his eyes.

"y-y-yeah! okay, w-will do!" shuichi stuttered as he walked out of the starbucks. he waved to his friends before jumping into his car. shuichi kept his hand on his cheek for a few more minutes, smiling like an idiot.

Bridge in the rain, after Hiroshige is a painting made by Vincent van Gogh in 1887

i kinda like the way Vincent van Gogh paints, it always seems so easy when you look at it but terrifyingly hard when you try to recreate it

i kinda like the way Vincent van Gogh paints, it always seems so easy when you look at it but terrifyingly hard when you try to recreate it. but then again a painting takes time and patience and i have a short attention span.
