CHAPTER 5

evans felt sorry for the girl. she had had a hard life, and it was not fair that that much shit fell on to one person's neck. especially someone so delicate, so petite. he had been watching her face and saw every emotion display from her blue eyes. sadness, pain, anger, betrayal. now they gleamed with fear. as he shifted his eyes to his father he saw that his face was white as a sheet. all the blood had left his face and the same fear echoed from his pale green eyes. 'what the hell's a Sihir?'

at the sound of his voice the girl startled. she turned to look at evans and it was clear she had forgotten he was even in the room. before she could open her mouth to speak evans heard his fathers authoritative voice.' a Sihir, evans, is a wicked witch. she plays with black magic and is bad news. the price to become a sihir is very high, and to think julianna has joined them breaks my heart.. if you came to ask me for a way to bring her back..' his father lifted his hands apologetically. the girl nodded slowly. 'i know brody, but that isn't why i am here. she is my sister, but she made her decision and it's too late to save her whether i wanted or not..'

nianna felt exhausted. she had never told her story to anyone and it had drained her from all the energy. she turned to look at the boy, evans brody had called him. he was watching her intently, his eyes very dark. she couldn't read the expression but it sure wasn't friendly.she didn't want to look at him anymore and turned her eyes to face brody. he was thinking deeply.'then why are you here?' evans had a deep voice, rough. nianna shrank down a little inside. she wasn't used to anyone treating her with anything other than silk gloves. brody let out a exasperated sigh and glanced at evans, warning him to keep quiet. frustrated evans got up and started pacing the room, keeping his eyes on her.

'well, i came to hear whether you knew anything of the danger julianna mentioned? there aren't exactly many ways to hear rumours in Lelaki and i remembered you always had your ear to the ground.' the old man chuckled.'oh sweetie as you can see i'm old now and little out of date. but for you, i'll see what i can find out.' brodys reassuring smile made her smile too. "i don't know how to thank you brody" 'my dear, silly child you don't need to thank me. i'll go see a few friends and it might take a while. those old bastards can't shut up once they've started' with a wink he turned to evans. 'son, guide our lovely visitor to the guestroom will you? she'll stay with us for a while, won't you dear? great! get some sleep now and i hope to be back with good news. bye now you two!' before nianna could say a word in protest brody was through the door.

left alone with the girl, evans didn't know what to say. she was a stranger and a witch, both facts making evans uncomfortable. the girl turned her face to him and she was equally stupefied. evans ran a hand through his hair and cleared his throat. 'so uh, the guest room. follow me.' he turned and headed for the stairs. the house wasn't big but it had two stories and a massive yard. evans had grew up in it and he loved it.

he was already half way up the stairs when he suddenly stopped. he hadn't heard her follow. he turned around and she walked into him. the girl had been so light on her feet he didn't hear her walking right behind him. and when he'd stopped she didn't have time to react. her eyes widened in surprise as she lost her balance. he automatically shot out his hand to steady her. he grabbed her by the shoulder and held the girl from falling. panting, the girl looked him in the eyes. they were an unbelievable shade of blue. dark blue at the edges, lightening towards the pupil. one could get lost in eyes like those.

nianna stood in the stairway gazing into evans' dark eyes. she felt his arm heavy on her shoulder and her breath was still uneven from the bump. for a while they stood there, bodies so close nianna could feel heat emanating from his werewolf body, warming her. then evans lifted his arm and turned to ascend the stairs. nianna followed but left a little space between them this time. evans led her to a nice room at the far end of the house.  he stopped by the doorway and let her in. he watched her take in the room and shifted his legs, clearly uncomfortable. 'i'm sure my father would tell you to make yourself at home, so, do.' it didn't escape nianna that for some reason evans wasn't so willing to welcome her. he nodded and turned to leave. 'my name is nianna, by the way.'

nianna sat down on the bed. there was nothing she could do now but wait until brody came back. she really didn't know what to do if he couldn't find out anything for her. she'd be back to square one, which was desperation. having a hope, no matter how small, that brody would be able to help was all she had to go on. taken away, she'd have to go to Kecederaan and face something she really wasn't willing to. nianna was exhausted by the emotional rollercoaster of the day and had zero energy, but she was too anxious to sleep. she could hear somebody walking around in the room next to hers and turned her thoughts to evans.

evans too was deep in thought. nianna..he didn't know what to think of her. sure, she was beautiful. and obviously she was upset about something, but evans really couldn't understand what was this 'problem' she was facing. her sister had warned her, of what exactly? she hadn't said anything that had made evans think there was anything out of the ordinary going on. he was convinced nianna had just overreacted to something her sister had thought to be a great fun. julianna must have some sick sense of humour...he really couldn't blame nianna for reacting the way she had.

still, there was something in niannas' story that had made him feel uneasy, like that Sihir part. what exactly was that all about? even his father had reacted strongly to it, and brody was known for his calmness in trouble. what was it about the Sihirs that made his father pale in fear? he wanted to know more but he'd just have to wait until his father returned.

he had been pacing his room and was pretty sure that unless he stopped he'd make a hole on the floor. he had a way of thinking better on his feet, maybe because of the animal in him. being a werewolf wasn't easy, not for him.
