CHAPTER 6
unlike the rest, he wasn't able to relish the animal side of him. ever since his brothers death, evans had known that in time, he'd have to become the next alfa. it wasn't something he had ever wanted to do, and the feeling had only intensified in the past years. but ever after the night his older brother had met his death his feelings no longer played a part.
the werewolves of Serigala weren't a pact per say, but they still needed a 'leader', in case something would occur. for 40 years it had been brody, and before that brody's father, and so on. evans' ancestors were one of the original werewolf families, and with that came certain responsibilities. his blood ran dark with the animal inside him, and it was his duty to take his fathers place when he died.
in general the alfa was just one of the others, but in need he'd rise and claim his position as highest. it wasn't like in Kecederaan, where a vampire was named king and he'd rule for as long as the population saw fit. then they drove a stake through his heart. the current king had ruled for 125 years now and there seemed to be no end in sight since vampires didn't die of natural causes. and the king was liked by both vampires and witches.
even though the position of an alfa was mainly unofficial, it was a name evans didn't want connected to him. it had always been christian who was supposed to take over after their father and they both had liked it that way. there was no bad blood on that matter between the brothers. evans was a careless person, a little reckless in a boyish manner. Christian was more serious, he took his upcoming position as leader seriously and acted as though scared he'd somehow end up losing it if he didn't act as was right for a future leader. all his spare time christian had spent studying the different laws of the realms, learning as much culture and history of the supernatural worlds as he could. bonding with a little brother hadn't been a high priority.
the 2 year age difference between the boys could have easily been 20, they were so unlike. their father had thought with regret that he had possibly introduced christian to the position of alfa at a too early age. it had made christian skip childhood and focus on the future instead. it had aroused quite the different reaction in evans. it had made him live in the moment, acting on impulse, not giving much thought to consequences. but evans was a kind boy, he knew where the line was and never crossed it. he would never do anything to hurt anyone and he was born with a strong sense of justice and righteousness. brody never judged his boys, he believed in free upbringing and was proud of his sons. he loved the boys unconditionally, but evans reminded him of his younger self and that made him believe evans would become a better alfa than his brother.
but faiths hand was given, the older brother would be alfa. there was no changing the laws of Serigala, not that brody wanted to. he was convinced that christian would become a good leader. but in life, nothing is more certain than the uncertain. in one night the entire future of Serigala took a different path.

i am happy to answer any questions, concerns, critique, etc.
for the next chapter or two i have came up with a way to connect nianna and evans together. and btw this pov is different on purpose, i decided it'd be easier to write and read this way. what do you feel? should i continue in this style or get back to the individual povs?
alrighty then, enough of my yapping here,
