CHAPTER 7
it had been a cold winter night when evans and christian had decided to go running together. it wasn't common but they did that from time to time. despite their differences, they were brothers and they tried to get along. and nothing brought them closer than racing through the Serigala forests as wolves.
they didn't know how long they had been running when christian suddenly stopped. he sniffed the air and that made evans aware of a unusual smell as well. it was a overly sweet smell that made him gag. like rotting fruits mixed with a big spoonful of vanilla. underneath was a coppery undertone that their sensitive wolf smelling could pick up. even though he had never seen one, evans knew there was vampires somewhere near by. why were they here? he looked around, tilting his ears trying to hear even a slight indication someone was moving. the wind was loud in his ears and the snow made it easy for an attacker to jump him.
christian was checking his surroundings and noticed something on his right. he took in the direction, leaving evans stunned. after a while he took off after his brother, knowing this was not a good idea. they should've gone and get their father. he was no coward and was usually the one to act first think later, but this time he seemed to be the brain. his brother was already much ahead of him and evans saw he wouldn't be able to reach him in time.
in front of christian appeared two big male vampires. they seemed to have appeared from thin air, leaving christian no time to react. both of them attacked christian from either sides, taunting him. even with his werewolf strength and speed christian was no match for the two, and evans was still too far for help. it seemed like he was running through quick sand, he didn't appear to be getting any closer.
in horror he watched one of the vampires take out a dagger and drive it in his brothers side. he lifted the dagger in the air with a victorious grin and the blood gleamed in the moonlight. a heartbreaking howl rang in the night and evans wasn't sure had it been his.
by the time he reached his brother, blood had stained the white snow all around them. christian was getting weaker by the second but when evans jumped on one of the attackers he was able to defend himself against the other. evans was all rage and he attacked with ferocious strength. seeing they had now lost the advantage of surprise and the situation had switched tables the vampires tried to make a run for it. one of them had gotten seriously injured and it was easy for evans to catch him and finish him. the other had more luck and got away since christian was in no condition to run. he had now turned back to human and evans could see the amount of damage they had caused.
where the bastard had stabbed him was a big bleeding wound. he had various gashes all around his body but what was really killing him was the blood loss. evans knelt by his brother and hovered his hands over him, not knowing what to do. 'chris, can you hear me? it's going to be okay, you understand? i'm going to..'. yeah, what was he going to do? christian was losing blood, fast. his eyes were clouded with pain and he was beginning to lose consciousness. evans didn't have anything but the snow to try and stop the blood flow. he scooped it and tried putting it on the dagger wound at his side. because werewolves had a body temperature higher than average it was no use using the snow, it quickly melted in his hands.
a horrible situation was quickly getting worse and evans knew he'd have to do something quickly. he could either shift and run to find some help or he could carry christian. but he had no idea how far away from home they were. one look at his brothers face told him he could not leave him there, and he couldn't be sure the vampires were really gone. 'heey, brother. i am going to lift you up okay? this might hurt but hang in there, kay? we'll be home in no time..' he tried lifting his brother gently but still christians' face distorted in agony. he didn't have much time left and evans didn't want his brother drying out in his arms.
minutes passed and there was no sign of anyone. christians breathing was getting slower and slower and evans begun to panic. tears prickled behind his eyes and his powers were waining. despite the burning in his muscles, his legs turning to led, and the shear pain in his arms he found the strength to take step after step by looking at his brothers greying face. christian would die in his arms if he didn't find help, now.
an eternity later evans could see a light shining in the distance. he felt relief wash through him even though the danger was far from over. as soon as he was close enough to make out the outlines of the house in the darknes he began shouting for help. footsteps came from the house and into the yard.
at last evans' legs gave out and he fell to his knees holding christian close to his chest. he felt him being lifted gently from his arms and heard shouting and some body asking him something but he was too numb to pay attention to anything.
