Stay gold, Johnny Cade

HOMECOMING approached like a flip of a page. Summers ending, schools starting, this is supposed to be the time of your life, right? These days are passing by like it's nothing, like they're just a date on a calendar.
It's been 165 days since Johnny died. I've been keeping track, not on purpose, it just happens. I'd pass by the lot and imagine Johnny curled up in newspapers, or eat at the Dingo and be able to see us in a booth eating breakfast. I've always avoided those places. The Dingo is no longer the Dingo and the lot is no longer the lot. Hell, the Curtis house ain't even the same.
On the other side of things, homecoming is today. A few weeks ago Evie and I went out to go dress shopping. She helped me pick out a pale pink dress. It's knee length, form fitting on the top with ruffles that cascade from the dips in my waist. I matched it with a white shawl to drape around my arms, more for looks than recreational use. Ponyboy decided to wear his fathers tux since money was tight for them. I offered to pitch in some money but they insisted for me to not worry.
"What should I do for eyeshadow?" I asked as I brushed out my eyebrows in the mirror of Evies bathroom. She looked up from the opposite end of the vanity, taking look at my dress. She rustled through some compacts, eventually picking out one with various shades of pink.
"Put the pink on the lid..." she trailed, looking through her drawers, "With these eyelashes, and these," She said, pulling out a pair of black twiggy lashes and white pearls in a small bag.
I gave her a funny look, mentally asking what she wants me to do. She rolled her eyes, "Look." she breathed, pulling out a catalogue already flipped to a page about makeup. The model had blue on her lid and tiny pearls under her eyes.
"Ohh, I see," I smirked, pulling a brush out from a glass jar.
I'd say I'm good at doing makeup, not an expert, but I can sure make a cool look. Thanks to Evie I got the idea, and I pulled it together nicely. This is the most I've had on my face though.
I didn't do much with my hair, I just had to take out curling rollers and comb through my hair. The end product paid off to say the least.
"Wow," Evie gushed as she looked at my body. I grinned, "Wow,"
Not many Greaser girls can say they actually pull off tight fitted dresses, but Evie is one of them. We both laughed at nothing, maybe it was just contentment of how we looked or excitement maybe. We frolicked outside to her front door after grabbing our belongings. The boys were coming to pick us up, Two-bit and his date would ride with Steve and Evie while me and Pony would ride with Dallas and his girl cause he gave in to being our chauffeur.
