"But with every falling apart, there is a coming together"

ONE RAINY DAY soon became a distant memory. That day started new beginnings, where we cherished others' presence and found joy in the little things. It was a day for new relationships, ones with deeper foundations of love.
When we walked home, soaked in water, Ponyboy Curtis asked me to be his girl. It was a sweet and innocent exchange yet it felt so electrifying as it sparked swarms butterflies in my stomach. I said yes hastily and laced my fingers with his. Now, when there's even the slightest breeze, my mind drifts back to the night Ponyboy and I shared a kiss in the rain.
"Uh, Ellie, could you run to the store to get some things," Darry asked as he rummaged through the messy kitchen cabinets.
"Sure thing, Superman, got a list?" I drummed my fingers on the countertop as he nodded, pulling a note out of his back pocket. He scribbled a few extra words down and handed the note to me.
"Thank ya, oh and bring someone, too." He slightly grinned and kissed my head before going back to his search for supplies.
I spun around and walked through the front door, heading towards the backyard. When I reached the metal gate I kicked it open, continuing to where the rest of the boys are.
"Ponyboy, could you come to the store with me? Darry asked me to get some more stuff." I informed. He looked up at me from what he was doing, setting up a table, and walked over to me, "What? Him and Soda just went shopping yesterday?"
He peered over my shoulder and scanned the list that was in my hand while placing his on the small of my back.
"Gosh, he never uses his head." He mumbled with a grin. I smiled, "So, r'ya up for it?"
He nodded and looked at the backyard. Everyone, well Sodapop, Steve, and Evie, were helping clean up or set up whatever needed aid. We're having a summer barbecue/party, it was something Soda and Steve really wanted after the rumble but it's been put off for obvious reasons. Dally and Two-Bit were just standing around smoking without bothering to help.
"Hey, we're headed off to the store, you guys need anything?" Ponyboy yelled.
"A pack of Kools." Dally called out. I rolled my eyes as I took a mental note to pocket a pack for him. Nobody else requested anything so I turned on the balls of my feet to leave.
