A/N: A bit cringey at bits... *please forgive me*!

Shit.

"I've got to go," I said, aiming to run out the entrance.

"Hey, hey, Min -"

I shrugged out of Nathan's arm, snaking my way through the large groups of people, clutching my phone tightly. I could feel my eyes watering slightly, and I desperately fought them back.

I reached the foyer and exited the hotel, and stood on the steps as I carefully examined the missed calls. Since it was a private number, I wasn't able to call it back. I'd just have to wait until the hospital called me back first. I inhaled deeply, and as I closed my eyes, tears uncontrallably escaped.

"Hey, Minnie!"

"I'm fine," I said softly. "Please."

I hated getting sympathy or having people feel sorry for me, but Nathan had managed to soften my emotions and open up my character. He put his arm in front of me, holding me from the back into a hug. He nuzzled his chin into my shoulder socket and pulled me closer to his chest. I let myself fall into his embrace for a few seconds, but then abruptly pulled away.

"I have to go. I'm sorry, I have to," I said, trying to keep my voice stable. Rivers of tears streamed down my face. Nathan looked concerned, and he wiped them away with his thumbs, resting his fingers on the side of my face.

"Where, China? Right now? I don't think so," he said gently. "You need to relax. Here, let's go."

"Go where?"

He simply held my hand and cascaded up a flight of stairs and led me to a quiet balcony. Noise from downstairs rose into a soft muffle and whilst it was quite cold, there was a refreshing breeze. He rested his elbows on the granite balcony frame as he looked dazedly into the night sky, still holding my hand.

"My brother's probably dead," I whispered, tightening my grip on his hand, tensing to prevent any more tears slipping. "I don't know why I'm even upset. He was useless."

Nathan sighed. "You can't break family bonds. You'll love him forever," he said.

I nodded as I cried into his chest. He then shrugged off his blazer and gently draped it over my shoulders. I smiled weakly. "You'll get cold otherwise," he said.

"Can we stay here, though?" I asked. "The evening... just being outside, I think it's calming me down a bit."

"Of course."

A few moments later my phone began ringing. Nathan eyes darted to my phone. I shakily answered and held the phone to my ear.

I could hear Xiang demanding something, muffled in the background. I rolled my eyes. I didn't want to have to deal with him. But I did feel rude to the nurse who was on the phone, especially since I'd already ignored three of the hospital's calls already. She said Xiang had to speak to me, so I waited until he came onto the phoneline.

"Min? Are you there?"

I paused before replying. "Yes."

"I know you must hate your guts out for me right now, but please listen to me," he said, as I rolled my eyes. "The company's going down the drain, but I managed to sell it off to some idiot for quite a bit. I'm so sorry, I was so vile to you before. Hospital bills are ridiculous, especially since I need all this special therapy crap. And there's no way I can pay for it as well as your music tuition. I can bribe someone to sign me off an overdose of drugs. I don't want you tainted with my failures. Please."

I was left speechless. My breathing rate escalated and my mind was dizzy. It was freezing outside but I felt hot and suddenly somewhat ill. He then softly added, "I'm sorry."

That's what broke me. I then thought of Nathan's words. You can't break family bonds. You'll love him forever.

"I won't let you," I said firmly, gaining confidence from nowhere. "I won't let you. Save yourself. You can't leave me. You're the only family I have left. Don't worry about money. I'll be fine. I even have a job. I'll save up and visit you sometime. Please, please stay. For me."

"I can't."

"You can. And you will. Promise me, Xiang."

"I'll try my hardest. I love you. So much. Thank you, Min, thank you."

I hastily wiped my eyes with the back of my hand and sniffled unattractively. Nathan looked at me warily and I smiled. "Everything's fine... no, everything great," I said, falling into his comforting arms.

"I told you so," Nathan muttered like a cheeky schoolboy. I instantly looked up at him, planning on giving him my signature glare and narrowing eyebrows. For some reason, however, I had decided to notice Nathan's attractiveness that precise moment in time. I had always viewed him as hot, but I suddenly became fixated on his eyes, glinting slightly in the moonlight. He was seriously hot.

He looked at me straight back, not leaving my gaze for so much a moment to blink. I was so near to him and I could feel his heart beating, the heat from his skin, his blood pulsing through his veins. His arm slowly shifted from my arm to touch my cheek, lightly. He blinked as he gently tipped my head to one side, resting in his hand.

If this had been any other boy at any other time in any other place, I would have probably immediately punched them in the face and sprayed their face with spit from an essay swear words. But no, this was Nathan. Nathan, the guy who'd nicked my suitcase but had returned it to my nevertheless. Nathan, the guy who may have appeared to be a goof but was actually a highly mature and emotional one. Nathan, the guy who had been the one to comfort and talk to me when I was at my worst. He had changed me and made me see things nobody else had ever managed to do for me.

Despite the obvious, I had been completely oblivious to the fact Nathan was about to kiss me. I stayed frozen in his arms, blinking at him. He leaned in very slowly, carefully, his eyelids closing and his lips lightly touched mine, the lightest of touches. I was the most virgin a virgin could be - I'd never even had a boyfriend and kissing was out of the question. My father would've murdered me if he'd ever suspected I'd had a boyfriend during school.

It had been like every cringey teenage girl movie, with the whole 'rushed sensation' crap. It had been such a short time I couldn't even remember it that perfectly, but I highly doubted any other boy could be a match for a kiss like that. His lips were soft and he'd left a sweet taste on my own lips.

He pulled away slowly and blinked, as if he had been confused with what he had done himself. I breathed deeply and smiled. He looked dazed. "I'm sorry. I should've warned you first, right? I keep forgetting we're 'just friends'."

I smiled as I gently shook my head. "No, thank you," I said softly. "Thank you."

He paused, before speaking cautiously. "Does... that mean we're... going out, then?"

I couldn't help but to smirk as he sounded like an embarassed preschool kid. He pulled a face back at me. I burst out laughing, hugging him.

"I guess so, yes."

He grinned childishly and I laughed at his cute expression.

"Shall we go down to the ball, Cinderella?" he said jokingly, pretending to bow down.

"Why, that would be lovely, Prince Charming."

I was happy. So, so, very happy.
