Authors Note: I'm kinda feeling this song deeply during quarantine.
Parker's POV:
I stayed next to Hunter while he slept. I felt so bad for him. He had to deal with so much. I just wanted him to feel better. Then, I heard a soft knock and the creak of a door.
"Oh, am I interrupting something?" It was Hunters mom.
"No ma'am." I quickly thought of an explanation. "He got out of the shower and was cold. So he laid down. He fell asleep and then had a nightmare. I laid next to him and tried to calm him back down. It worked a little too well I guess." I softly chuckled. Hunters mom walked over and kneeled next to the bed, rubbing her thumb on the small boys arm.
"You're so kind to everyone Parker. I'm sure Hunter appreciates it. He's gone through a lot recently. But he'll tell you when he's ready. You take good care of him, ok? I'm gonna go down and make some lunch for y'all. Come down whenever you guys need. I'll tell your mom he needs you, and might not be home for a day or so." She spoke softly as to not wake up Hunter.
"Thank you Mrs. Jones. I'm glad I could help." I smiled as Hunter shifted closer to me in his sleep and mumbled something just soft enough for me not to hear.
"He seems to like you a lot. You're a good kid. Don't hurt him though." Hunters mom looked like she knew something I didn't.
"I would dare, ma'am." I liked having Hunter this close to me. His mom got up and walked softly to the door.
"Bye now." She gave a small wave and quietly shut the door. I let out a small sigh before returning my fingers to Hunter's hair. "If only you knew. If only..." I whispered so slightly I was sure no one could hear. I was wrong.
"If only I knew what?" The small voice made me jump a little.
"Nothing. It-nothing. Don't worry about it." I quickly said, turning bright red.
"I heard my mom you know. The whole conversation. I was asleep, but not THAT asleep." Hunter said, still cuddled into me.
"O-oh. Well do you want to go down to eat at all? Not much, maybe just a bite or two?" I said hopefully.
"Yeah but not quite yet. I'm not really ready to." He got quieter as he spoke.
"And that's ok. Just as long as you try." I wrapped my arm around him and pulled him into me a little, Like a one armed hug. His face flushed a soft pink.
We finally got up and went downstairs, to his mom in the kitchen. Just before going in, I squeezed Hunters shoulder softly. "It'll be ok."
He gave a a weak smile. We walked in and Hunters mother greeted us warmly.
"Hey boys! I got some leftover soup and bread for you. I hope it's ok."
"It's just fine, thank you." I said. Me and Hunter day down to eat. He managed to get through half of his bowl, and some of the bread. Afterwards, we went back to Hunter's room to work on the geography project more.
