Beetlejuice and Adam stared at each other, nothing happened? Maybe it didn't work? Thoughts raced through Beetlejuice and Adams heads. But most importantly, what now? Beetlejuice could easily kill them, he'd gotten what he wanted. Besides the whole purpose of this was so he could torture the living. Then he thought about that stupid kid he promised to protect, who like him, didn't even get to live yet. Even for a demon, breaking this deal seemed wrong. Fine. He'll protect the kid, and come up with a plan in the meantime....
"Adam?" Barbra stirred, groggy, and tired. Adam hadn't even realized the sun came up and it was already eight o'clock. "Those tacos we had last night from Paco's Tacos are not sitting too well. Maybe we should steer clear from that place." Adam chewed the insides of his cheek and pierced Beetlejuice with another look as if to say "Stay quiet." To which he just shrugged and crept his way upstairs.
"Good Morning, Honey!" Adam brought her a plate of strawberries with a cold glass of water, "How are you feeling? You fell asleep last night and I didn't want to wake you." Barbra's heart could melt right then and there, he truly was the most caring husband she ever could've asked for. It wasn't until he sat beside her and held her close did she realize she was crying.
"What the hell is wrong with me?" She giggled and sat up in his lap. "It's almost like I'm on my-"
Adam could see the terror fill in her eyes, of course, he knew the answer to the question racing through her head and the fears along with it. But how exactly do you tell your wife you made a deal with a demon to keep their unborn baby alive?
"Adam, I think... I think... I'm..." It was as if she was afraid to say it. Like if she said it, it would become a reality.
"Pregnant?" She nodded and buried her head in his chest, she was terrified, and it broke his heart. "Hey, hey, hey." He soothed, "What if we go to the store, get a test and then maybe walk around town, okay?"
"Okay," Barbra said, relieving him with a smile. "I think I may have one upstairs, but we can still go out if you want. I hear Main Street has some of the best craft stores."
Beetlejuice sat on the edge of the Maitlands roof. He thought this would be a lot more fun, but he made a promise to leave the Maitlands alone so now what? There were a few kids in the neighborhood but they were too young to mess with. Who knew a demon could have a secret soft spot for kids? He'd be lying if it didn't piss him off, but no matter how much he pushed himself in the past, he couldn't bring himself to mess with little kids. Suddenly a girl, he guessed to be around fifteen or sixteen, maybe her way to the edge of the roof across the street. What the hell was she doing? She looked like she was going to...Beetlejuice waved his hand and in an instant found himself beside her.
   "WAIT!"
   "Who the hell are you?"
"A friend."
Beetlejuice bit his lip, "Look, we can help each other! Just let me know who you want to hurt and I'll do it! Please!"
  "What are you?"
"A demon?" Beetlejuice said, hopeful she wouldn't back off, naturally, she slightly did, but was obviously interested. "BUT a good demon. Kinda like a Ghost-Zombie Jesus! So what is it, what brings you here to the roof?"
"My Dad! My Mother died not even a year ago and he's already moved us miles away from home and got engaged to my air-headed life coach." The girl crossed her arms, "I just wanna get out of this house! But Dad's having his rich friend come to propose some crazy business idea." For a moment, Beetlejuice sat in thought.
" Okay kid, how about this, I scare 'em out for you and get you dad to go back home."
"What's in it for you?"
"Kid, do you know how long I've waited to hear the sound of a terrified scream?"
The girl smiled, "can you really get him to take us back home?"
"I sure can! Oh by the way kid, what's your name?"
"Lydia Deetz. I think we have a deal. And you are?"
Adam and Barbra paced back and forth in the hallway, waiting for the test results. He wanted to tell her it was going to be positive, that he knew it was going to be positive. But Adam also didn't want to fill her with false hope if Beetlejuice had lied to him. Come to think of it, why had he trusted a Demon of all things so quickly? He could only pray he wouldn't regret it.
"Adam?" Barbra handed him the test, covering it to prevent herself from seeing the results. "Can you look first?"
The two intertwined their hands, both shaking with adrenaline. Adam flipped it over and for a while, he just stared at it. He wasn't ashamed to let a few tears fall when he realized what it said.
"Barbra.." He grabbed her by the waist, pulling her closer to see, "Look...We're gonna have a baby!"
"And what if it doesn't last?" Barbra wiped her tears away, "Adam I'm scared we're going to lose it again, I don't think I can handle that again."
"It'll be okay, I promise." Adam held her even closer until he realized she fell asleep standing up. He carried her to their bed where he eventually fell asleep, still holding her close.
