I wake up to someone shaking me lightly. I was dead asleep and the sudden movement startles me. I jump awake and scare the life out of Onyx.
"What's going on? Who died?"
"No one. Calm down. How'd you sleep?"
"Like a baby. Where's Fergus?"
"He went with Grimes to round up our brothers. When they get back, we're burning them."
"Burning them? Why?! They are our brothers!"
"Do you want dig at least twenty-five graves?"
"Who dug them before?"
"My pack."
"Your pack?"
"It used to be ours."
"It always was. Whether I was in it or not."
"Fine. Our pack did."
"Are they really all dead?"
"Yeah. The pack you inherited from Pine was completely wiped out, other than Grimes. The only ones out of ours is Drev, Varg, Reid, and Grey."
I close my eyes and lay back. They gave their lives for me and my family.
"We are not fucking burning them. They deserve better than that. I'll dig them myself if I have to."
"You don't. I'll help you."
"How is Fergus doing?"
"Fine. He's his normal self. Why?"
"Last night was really weird."
"Yeah. Thanks for coming over."
"It was my choice and I made it. You can't be upset over that."
"Sure, I can."
"Fine."
I move to get up and he holds my face in his hands, his eyes burn into mine.
"I will know how it feels to make love to you again. I swear on my life."
"I'm married, Onyx. Move on."
"Make me."
"Onyx."
"You made your decision and I accept that, but I'm serious. I don't know how or when, but it will happen again. I know it will."
"Can I get up now?"
He leans in to kiss me and I put my hands up.
"Onyx, please. Don't."
He sighs and lets me go.
"Ready to go?"
"Where?"
"Fergus told me to take you to the Elder's court."
"I can go alone."
"You can, but you won't."
"At least, get out so I can get dressed."
"It's nothing I haven't seen a million times before."
"Good lord, Onyx."
"I'll turn around."
"You're impossible."
He winks at me, then turns around and I get up and walk to the closet, throwing on a shirt that's too big and a pair of shorts. When I turn back around, Onyx is staring right at me. I can see the heat radiating from his body and his eyes are on fire.
"I'm pretty sure I told you to turn around."
"I'm pretty sure I did."
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
