We've been back in town for a little over two weeks now and so far, Zenith hasn't sent anyone. Either he doesn't know that I'm back yet, or he doesn't care. I'm guessing the first. Kent has been so good. Too good. He waits on me hand and foot, and I'm getting a little annoyed by it. He's relentless anymore. It's almost noon on a Sunday and the others are probably at the field already, but I don't want to get up. I've been working with them nonstop and I'm exhausted. My wolf doesn't even want to hunt. Kent went out with them for a bit, though. I was supposed to get up, shower, and do some dishes, but I couldn't make myself get up. I hear the door open and close downstairs, then footsteps on the stairs.
"Red?"
"Bedroom."
He comes in and smiles. I'm still curled up under my blanket.
"You didn't get up yet?"
"No. I've been trying, but I'm too tired. I don't even want to hunt."
"You should stay in bed today. Get your energy back up. Fergus said he was going to take the lead today so I could come back home."
"How is he?"
"He doesn't tell me much."
"How does he look?"
"Why do you keep asking me about him?"
"Because if he's broken, it's my fault."
"I don't know, Red. He's just angry."
I nod and look down. He sits on the edge of my bed and holds his hand out for mine. I smile and get out from under the blanket to sit on his lap and kiss his cheek. He laughs and kisses me.
"You're adorable."
"So are you."
"I'll take it. You are the only one that can call me that, though."
"Good."
"Mhm. Kiss me, baby."
He pulls my face to his with a moan which turns into a growl when someone knocks on the door. I groan and roll off of Kent back onto my bed. Onyx has been trying to talk to me since I've been back and only comes around when he thinks Kent is at the field. Kent came back early today, though. He growls louder and stands up to go downstairs. I sigh and stand up to follow him. This won't be pretty. He opens the door and steps out to get in Onyx's face, and Onyx backs up.
"I thought you were at the field. I came to talk to Mal."
"Nope. Came back early. You aren't talking to her. Get fucking lost."
"I've been talking to her this whole time."
Kent looks at me, and I sigh and roll my eyes.
"He's lying, Kent. I always tell him to leave. Have you smelled him in the house?"
Kent snarls and gets in Onyx's face.
"She didn't take Fergus back. What makes you think she'll take you back? Take the fucking hint."
"I don't want her back. Well, I do, but I just want my friend back."
I shake my head and turn around to go back upstairs.
"Mallory, please!"
"No, Onyx! I have given you chance after chance after chance and I always end up getting hurt because you have no self-control! I told you, I'm not doing it anymore. We are way too old for this shit."
"I don't have anyone else."
"That isn't my fault. I tried to warn you to stop before you really ended up alone. You didn't listen and that isn't my problem."
