C: in here sweetie I walk into the small kitchen to see my mother sitting at the table with a cup of coffee in her hands C: im so glad you reconsidered She stands up from her chair and welcomes me into a big hug T: your acting oddly strange C: what do you mean i cant be happy my daughter returned home? T: i guess What is with her T: you said you had news C: right, yes, take a seat I sit down in the chair to the right of her chair C: So, i went to the doctor's today for a check up *clears throat* and they told me Is she tearing up? my heart rate quickens C: *sighs* they told me that im diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease T: what.. Tears fall down both the sides of my face T: is there away we could cure it. I mean this disease has been around long enough. they have a cure right?! She looks up at me with sadness completely washed over her face C: no baby, its not like that Her voice cracks and she puts her hand on mine T: I dont want to lose you, im so sorry for everything C: hey look at me okay, no matter what happens, i want you to know that i truly love you and i know ive been a shitty mom since your dad left and im the one who needs to be sorry, I wish i treated you better, clothed you more when you were growing up, fed you better, and im sorry you never got the mother and daughter relationship you deserved. I love you so much.
Were both in tears and i pull her into a hug T: I forgive you okay? I love you too C: we're gonna get through this
I wake up on the couch and see my mom asleep on the recliner I check my phone and see i got a message from Hardin
You awake? yeah wassup are you free right now
I look at my mom and see shes sound asleep
yeah is it alright if i come scoop you? yes omw seen I decided im gonna tell Hardin about my mom when he gets here.
Hardin texts me that he is here and I right a note and leave it on the counter for my mom
I walk outside and Hardin's black Camaro is sitting there and i get in
H: so how did it go? T: um very unexpected *gulps* T: the news she was talking about, yeah it wasnt exactly good news I already feel tears swelling up in my eyes He grabs my hand T: she has Alzheimer's disease Hardin My voice cracks as i say the words for the first time H: oh shit, come here He unbuckles his seat belt and scoots his seat back, I climb over the console and straddle him into a hug as tears roll down my face and onto his black sweatshirt, I feel him rubbing my back and we sit there for a while T: and the worst part about it all *sniffles* she apologized
I know i look like a mess right now my eyes bloodshot and i have tears stained to my face T: for everything, and that makes it hurt more I stick my head back into Hardin's neck H: its okay, Tessa I know this sucks, you should spend all the time you can with her T: I want you to meet her, I want her to get to know you before it gets bad I sit up and hes starring at me H: okay he pushes my hair behind my ear T: come on shes in the living room I hop off his lap and and hop out of the car and he follows me I lead him into the living room and shes not there T: mom? I walk to the kitchen and shes frantically going through the pantry while standing on a chair T: mom? are you looking for something? C: I cant find the sugar, i need it for my coffee I walk over to the cabinet right next to the coffee pot and grab the sugar, I look at her with confusion written over my face C: oh i guess i must've moved it T: its always been there mom She just opens the bag of sugar and puts it in her coffee, I look at Hardin with worry on my face T: *clears throat* Mom, this is Hardin C: hi its nice to meet you Im Carol *shakes his hand* is this your boyfriend tessa? T: no mom H: not yet atleast *smiles at Tessa* C: would either of you like some coffee? H: no thank you ms. young She looks over at me T: im good mom *smiles* C: alright go sit in the living room im just gonna put some sugar in my coffee and ill be right there, she turns to walk to the cabinet T: you already put sugar in your coffee She stops C: right, i know She grabs her coffee and walks to the living room, I look at Hardin and he grabs my hand C: so, Hardin is it? H: yes ma'am C: What do you plan for your future? H: i haven't really thought that far ahead yet, i thought about doing college, but im not a hundred percent sure yet C: oh thats nice, college was one for the books for me, id go out and party and one time my friend, her name was Katherine, she was so beautiful had these beautiful green eyes and dark curly hair, anyways we- what was i talking about again? H: college C: right, college was really fun, i think you'd enjoy it I squeeze Hardin's hand, It sucks watching her fall apart infront Hardin H: ill definitely consider it C: are you guys hungry would you like to eat? T: im fine mom
careful Tessa we wouldnt want you crushing Hardin Can you breathe alright? Mollys words keep repeating in my head H: im good too thank you though C: alright, excuse me for a moment while i use the bathroom She gets up and walks to the bathroom H: are you okay *whispers* T: yeah, im fine
After a while of my mom getting to know Hardin, she wanted to watch a movie T: which movie do you wanna watch mom C: one with jim carrey in it, I love him hes so humorous T: alright, either the mask or ace Ventura pet detective C: why not both we've got time I look to Hardin T: are you fine with staying for two movies? H: yeah ofcourse I smile at him and mouth thank you T: alright mom which one first C: the mask I pop the dvd in and sit next to hardin on the couch i woke up on this morning, and moms sitting in the recliner
We get half way through the second movie before my mom falls asleep, I stand up and grab a blanket and drape it over her petite body, and go and sit back down next to Hardin T: thank you for this H: your mum's really sweet T: yeah she wasn't always like this, I guess her diagnosis made her open her eyes, its weird actually getting along with my mom. I check the time and its already 5 o'clock T:I should probably unpack all my stuff, you wanna come with H: sure We stand up and go to my room and i dump everything out of my bag onto my bed, and Hardin is just walking around looking at pictures and books on my bookshelf I grab all of my bathroom stuff and put them in the bathroom down the hall, i fold my clothes and put them back in my dresser T: alright thats everything H: i like your room T: why thank you *smiles* He sits on my bed H: oouu and your beds pretty comfy too I laugh and walk up to him and lay on him
