I felt a shiver run through my body at this voice, this side of Jacks I had never seen before. He turned his icy gaze on me making me want to run away for dear life. I stood my ground, putting my hands on my hips. I was not afraid of him.
He smirked at me, his eyes traveling to my lips and back to my eyes, looking as if he was going to kiss me. His head bent towards mine, and I froze. I couldn't seem to move my body. A part of me wanted to kiss him again, hold him again, and the other part, wanted to run away screaming.
When I thought our lips would touch, I held my breath, "I never left you." Jackson whispered, his breath mingling with mine.
I could only nod, afraid my voice would give away my emotions.
He stepped back suddenly, making me disappointed. I wanted to be near him, I needed to be near him.
His back was turned towards me when he started talking again, "I didn't know what was going to happen that night when I took you to Mac's."
His shoulders slumped, but he turned around to face me. "I didn't want you to stay there. I knew something didn't seem right. Not only with the way Mac was staring at you, but I had never delivered anything for Mac over five thousand dollars."
He glanced at Gavin, who seemed to be trying to focus on Jacks, but knew he was having trouble, "Once I left, I ran all the way to the destination, wanting to get back to you..." He paused, his eyes boring into mine. "Before I could get the money for the package, they wanted to see inside. Make sure, that what I was delivering, was there. It wasn't. Somehow, something went wrong, the package was filled with different kinds of soaps and shampoos."
He ran a hand through his hair, making it stick up at the ends, "At first they thought I was trying to scam them, and I tried to explain what had went wrong. Instead, they beat me and locked me up, saying that they would get to the bottom of it. A couple of days later, they said they sent someone to pick you up. They said that if I didn't help them get their package, then they would go after you and kill you."
He strode over towards me, eliminating the distance, grabbing my hands in his, "I've been trying to locate the package, but have been coming up dry, and the deadline was up a week ago. When I realized they had you, I came looking for you." He smiled then, "And I did."
He wrapped his arms around my waist pulling me into a hug. Instead of pulling away, I gave in. I loved the feel of his arms around me, how I had missed it.
"Touching." Gavin said from behind me, his voice cold. I immediately pulled away from Jacks, blushing.
"What are we going to do?" I asked, my voice giving away my fear. I was afraid of these people. I glanced over at Gavin, who was staring at me. I knew what they could do to a person, and somehow, Gavin was right. There are worse things than death.
I turned back to Jacks, waiting for him to respond. Instead, he just smiled at me. I knew that smile all too well. He already had a plan. He had just been waiting for me to come back. This smile said we had a lot of rough road ahead of us, but it also said that we would come out on top.
I didn't have to ask what the plan was, because I knew no matter what, Jackson would get us through this. I looked at Gavin, I knew he would want to know what Jacks had planned. I could already see them butt heads. I suddenly wondered how all of this was going to work out.
Jackson and Gavin didn't get along, and that would hinder us. I had a picture in my head, of me in between them and each of one pulling at one of my arms, trying to get me away from the other.
That's what I was, caught in the middle. I was the middleman.
Suddenly I had hope. If anyone could keep them from not fighting, it would be me, right? I turned back to Jackson, and smiled. This meant, let's play.
