A New Life

Days passed.

I knew the risks of carrying this whole thing out, and I knew what the consequences would have been. Nathan wasn't wrong when he said I'd be throwing everything away. That night when the two of us'd finally became one I had to leave everything behind without even mustering a goodbye. It was just too risky to trust anyone with the law on our asses.

Nathan, apparently being the expert he is wanted me to get rid of anything they could use to track me. My phone played a heavy role in that. For specific reasons, I couldn't bring myself to dispose of my phone—There's just too much vital information that it carries. I told Nathan that I lost it after the fall from the building, in which he seemed to take my word for. I sort of felt bad for lying to him, but there was still too much to learn about him that I needed to keep track of. I did my part and kept my phone on airplane mode and powered off at all times, only using it when it was necessary.

Upon the first day of being on the run the both of us tended to our scratches and mild wounds in order to look less suspicious out in public; Hence being at the highschool, it was literally impossible to leave town without having to pass through the town's civilians and risking being caught by a stray cop or something. We discarded our tattered clothing and Nathan showed the way to one of his nearby hideouts—Which was the place of our first unpleasant encounter.

"Isn't this a bad idea? I wasn't lying when I said they planned to barge into every single place you've laid low in." I informed for what seemed like more than once stubbornly, looking around to make sure no one followed us. "Just relax, (Y/N). As obvious as it seems, the G-men won't suspect this place." Nathan sighed out, pulling a basic silver house key from his pocket. "But that doesn't mean we can stay here long, either." He added stoic like as he unlocked the door and stepped into the dark and abandoned home.

As I followed after the pink haired male, I decided to ignore the fact that this was the very place where Leon could have lost his life. The last thing I wanted was any unneeded conflict due to past situations. The two of us gathered any available supplies such as sealed foods that'd long been hidden in the home, new clothes that would last us a good amount of time, and took turns taking showers afterward.

Nathan insisted we take a shower together—and I quote—to 'Finish things up quicker' , but even after what we'd done together outside of the school, I preferred my privacy when washing up. Though with a pout nonetheless, he complied with my preferences and went on by himself.

Once the two of us were finished getting dressed and ready, we left the place in a hurry. Around that time the sun was already coming was already coming up, in which we began our second official day of being on the run.

During the entirety of that day, we spent our time treading through the allies and slums in search of the nearest subway station. Nathan figured it'd be the best route through the town in order to keep ourselves from being spotted. For all we knew, the both of us could've been fugitives waiting to make an absurd move. Although I felt I didn't need the protection, Nathan often had to threaten loitering gangs with death whenever he felt they were trying to make any dirty moves on the two of us.

"You still wanna try and steal our wallets, you lowly bastard?!" Nathan growled down at the gang member he'd just almost successfully gutted to death with a jagged pocket knife. "Nathan! We don't have time for this, just leave the guy be!" I grunted as I held the smaller male back with little to no effort.

"You're f-fucking nuts!" He spat, coughing up blood as he spoke. covering his wounded stomach with his hands, his other two companions helped him away from the momentarily hotheaded psychopath before him as quickly as possible, leaving a trail of blood staining the concrete behind.

For the rest of the day, probably thanks to Nathan, we didn't run into anymore gangs, and were peacefully able to camp out in the depths of an ally through the night without being disturbed by any teenaged hooligans.

And then there was today. Around 6AM we rushed through the streets, passing by morning runners and pet owners walking their dogs. The two of us ran nonstop until we reached the station. The interior of the station's bricked walls were littered in graffiti, and the place wasn't exactly the cleanest when it came to grime and trash. In the distance, I could hear the subway come to a pulling stop, the sound of metal clashing and scraping against rusted iron while coming to a halt. When the doors opened, the two of us piled into the train like a couple of maniacs, slouching over and trying to catch our breaths.

"Maybe it would've been wiser to wake up an hour earlier." I huffed out as well as directing an unimpressed stare at Nathan. "That was the plan, but I figured you needed a bit more shuteye." Nathan replied as he stretched. He then plopped down next to me with a sigh of content. "Plus, not many get on the subway around this time; We won't have to worry about anybody trying to sell us out."

I blinked at his response. "...I guess I should be thankful then." I muttered, laying my head back and glancing up at the metallic ceiling above me. "Exactly." Nathan beamed, suddenly clinging to my arm and resting his head against my shoulder. "Where would you be without me~?" Nathan joked with a smile, his eyes closing as he snuggled into the warmth of my larger frame.

Probably at home or at school.

I wouldn't say I was beginning to regret my whole decision so far, because I didn't...But I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss home already. I bet my parents are probably worried sick about me and have tried calling me at least once since I've been gone. On top of that, even though Leon helped me cover up my little plan to sneak out of the house, I don't think he approves of me being around Breanhime for so long in one setting.

He's probably angry with me...

Moments later the doors of the train finally came to a close as the large vehicle began to boot up, the machinery's working beginning to vibrate under my feet as the subway took off, zooming away from the tunneled area once and for all.

"So, tell me." Nathan began, snapping me out of my thoughts. "Was it all worth it?" He asked, his eyes still rested shut. I looked over at the male with a blank expression. Apart of me wanted to say of course not, but that wasn't the case. To be completely honest, I didn't have a clear answer for him.

With a sigh, I lifted my free arm and ruffled Nathan's head full of cotton candy colored-like hair, making the smaller male open his eyes. "I guess we'll just have to see, then I'll be able to give you a valid answer."

Nathan's gaze softened in response to my reply, his lips slightly parting as if he were getting ready to say something. But alas, to my surprise, his lips pursed into that of a soft smile. "I understand," he said in a soft voice. The male shifted up in order to place a soft kiss among my own lips, unexpectedly, making my cheeks heat up. He pulled away slowly, once again resting his head against my arm, leaving me mildly confused.

"Don't worry; I didn't forget I play a certain role in order to make this all work out for the both of us." He'd coo with a fatigued yawn. "Anyways—I'm going to get some shuteye. We won't be there until around eight something..."

"Y...Yeah. Sleep well." I said, unsure how to process what had just happened.

...He took that surprisingly well.

I stared out of the window across the isle, admiring the morning sky and everything below. It was hard to believe that I'd been living here in this town for so damn long that I actually gradually began to recognize some of these parts. I don't think I've ever ridden on a subway for as long as I've been alive.

I glanced over at Nathan's calm—seemingly—sleeping figure.

...Maybe with time I can make things work with him. I just have to be patient, and things will soon start to go my way... Our way.
